okay non-common block and common block parts?

I just bought a 1990 common block because my non-common block took a poop on me.orignally it was a 2.2 and now my common block is getting the stoker 2.5. What i want to know is what parts from my 88 2.2 will swap on to my 90 2.5, i:e, oil pan, oil pump, screen, oil pan mounting brackets thingies lol, etc. what will i need?

I know you will need a new pan and oil pump pickup. The oil pump will swap over.

Re: okay non-common block and common block parts?

What do you want to do with the 2.5L? No balance shaft?

Buy a NEW oil pump and oil pick up. You can keep the 2.5L oil pan if you're going to keep the balance shaft. If you're not going to keep a balance shaft, find a COMMON BLOCK non balance shaft pan. Your 88 pan will not work.

The brackets/mounts/everything external of the 88 2.2L engine should bolt right up to the 89 2.5L.

I'd also "upgrade" to the 89's alternator bracket and stuff.

The CB uses a different tensioner setup so get that.

    Head bolts on, same head.

You have to use round tooth sprockets, cam will be 4 deg retarded, so more power up top.

You rebuilt the engine and less than 1 month later the crank went?

I would not re-use that oil pump.

Re: okay non-common block and common block parts?

To use a NON balance shaft common block oil pan, you'll need buy a matching oil pick up. Get the oil pick up for 89 Daytona Shelby 2.2L turbo with manual transmission and you'll get the right part.

For your cylinder head, all you have to do is change the cam shaft sprocket to the round tooth sprocket and just drop the entire head on your new block.

I have a NON balance shaft oil pan and common block gasket set, PM me if you're interested.

Better is a 89+ Omni, that way, they can't screw it up.

Okay if thats the case my oil pump is from an 89 dodge daytona shelby as a matter of fact napa shared the same part number for it too (88 and 89). I just need a common block oil pan and maybe the screen.

You need to read this link

    http://www.thedodgegarage.com/turbo_shortblock.html

From my understanding, not alot of parts are interchangeable from a non common block to a common block.

Re: okay non-common block and common block parts?

Make sure you either a) get a common block water pump or b) cut a small notch in the oil pan so the non-common block water pump will seat completely on the block. Otherwise the non-common block water pump will hit the oil pan, not seat against the block, and you'll have coolant all over the place.

Double check the waterpump housing, thats the issue I believe, not the pump itself. And you do need the CB housing to run the CB tensioner setup.
