    Re: Best Cars of SDAC!

Well some of the cars you list aren't "SDAC" cars. That is they have never been to one of our events, some aren't even owned by members. for example, Carroll's cars while unique have never been to one of our events.

I would count Jim Edick's Red Shelby Dakota near the top as it has won 1st place at so many of our events and has been driven to all of them including both SDAC's that were held in Topeka.

Bill McPeak's 86 GLHS pretty much set the standard for original/unrestored. For a restored car Don Pennington's, which was shown at SDAC-17, is very well done.

Clay's 87 GLHS is another original in great shape!

Robert Meier's 87 Shelby Lancer is another notable car. VERY nice!

There are so many nice 87 CSX's, it is hard to pick 1 or even 3 out of them. Certainly Warren Hall's would be in there.

Tim Costello's 88 'T' deserves a spot (formerly the Garry McKissick car).

89 CSX #3 comes to mind, but it is under new ownership for the last few years, and we've lost track of it.

Warren Stramer's car should be in the drag cars AND the G-body classes. Incredible engineering and fabrication there!

Kelly Gomer's red IROC R/T comes to most events, gets beat on at the drags, and then driven back to Connecticut. And it looks as good as it runs! Definitely a SHOW & GO car.

Randy Salk's 83 Shelby Charger, almost completely original with less than 5000 miles, they don't get much nicer for original cars!

Greg Thewes GLHT is one of the nicest restored around. Dan Franzetta's is really great too (the purple one with the amazing paint)!

Mike Stimac's Daytona for road race cars. Multiple class winner in the One Lap of America events. 1st on wet skidpad two years running! Barry Miles Hooter's Omni (formerly DaveZ's car) holds it's own on both the road course and autocrossing.

I know I am missing a bunch, but these are the ones that came to me quickly.

    Barry
    86 Shelby Lancer Prototype
    90 Daytona Shelby VNT
    91 Spirit R/T

Thanks for the credit Barry but I tow my car out. Primarily because I leave nothing on the table when I am at the track.

Guys keep them coming! I'm compiling the list.... Cars that are unique are the best! Something that was a one off or an extremely nice example of one is great..... Also if you have a "what ever happen to that car" those are good too.... An example of this would be a ex-shelby original race car... Cars that set Shelby Dodge history.... First car in the 12's etc...

    Thanks!
    Tim

I love the enginnering that went into both of these cars >
I also live a mile from Steve Calder and I`d definately vote his car in.It`s a work of ART and 1000`s of hours of hard work.

Someone on TOML posted about this today. I don't know much about the history of it, but I swear I've seen pics of the car before with the older style nose and the blue and gold paint scheme:

Re: WANTED! List of Unique and Historical Shelby Dodges / Turbo Mopars!

There was a blue '89 Shelby Daytona that came to Carlisle back in '04(I *think*) that was friggin immaculate! The underside was so clean you could eat off it and the rest of the car was just as nice. It unfortunatly didn't get the attention it deserved. I wish I could remember the guy's name. His car was the first one I ever saw an H4 conversion on and it is what prompted me to persue that mod.

Also, Brent's '89 Shelby Daytona that was just unveiled not too long ago on TD would be right up there with Jackon's '91 and the blue car I just mentioned.

What about the '90 prototype CSX-VNT(the blue one)?

I think Mean Mini should have a place beside Slugmobile.

Anyways, I know some of the cars I mentioned either have not attended a true SDAC event or whatever, but I still think that they had/have significant influence on our hobby and should be considered....

I forget the name of the guy that owns that 89 also. Very pristine car. Didn't see him at Carlisle this year though.

Tim Pettijohn owns the 90 CSX prototype.

Re: WANTED! List of Unique and Historical Shelby Dodges / Turbo Mopars!

I was told that he got fairly irritated when he was at Carlisle when I saw it(reffering to the blue '89 Shelby Daytona). As with most things in life it seems that the event came down to a popularity contest. I don't want to take away from anybody's car or efforts, but looking back apon what I remember, his car SHOULD have placed in his catagory, but didn't becuase nobody knew who he was. He got disenchanted with that and decided his efforts would be better appreciated elsewhere.

I've seen this happen, cars win that should NOT win!! I witnessed a car win 1st place that was FILTHY compared to the other two trophy cars in that class! I'm convinced that the judges were paid off and the placing order was reversed! That is part of the reason I will not attend that particular even EVER again.

Anyways...back to the topic...sorry about the rant.

Talking about Larry Joliffe's 500 whp Spirit R/T? I agree. That's the first TM I ever saw a dyno sheet for that broke the 500 whp mark.
