If the timing belt is off, a drill on the I-shaft bolt, or a drill with a slot attachment in the distributor hole, same thing actually. Can also pour a bit of oil down the hole where the oil filter goes. It is oval off to the right side. That goes to the pump. Also can fill up the filter as much as you think can with out making a big mess to help.

Take out the plugs, disconnect the HEP and crank until you get oil pressure on the guage.

I took a 7/8 or 3/4 blade type hole saw, busted the tip off of it and stuck it on the end of my drill. Makes a perfect tool.

I prefer not to crank the engine over until I am sure there is oil flowing.

After my last head swap the pump would not prime no matter what, (plug in drill, cordless, air, starter, speed wrench) until I poured a bit of oil down the hole. Then she primed right away with the old speed wrench no less.

I turn the intermediate shaft gear by hand 'til there is oil coming out of the oil return pipe.

I just disconnect the wire from the coil! Saves the aggrevation of making an error with plug wires to cylinders 1,2,3,4.

Thats why you disconnect the HEP. If you get the firing order wrong, you shouldn't be working on your car,

If you remove the plugs and not the HEP, fuel will be sprayed into the cylinders.

I disassembled an old distributor and chucked the shaft in a drill and primed it that way. Obviously without the belt installed.

i did the same thing with a fully assembled distributor
so u can use just the shaft? I was thinking oil might squirt out everywhere

As long as you have everything bolted/plugged up, you'll be fine.

I use a remote pressure tank to prime the system taps into to oil gallery just add oil to the tank and 20-50 psi works great

I know this is a few weeks old, but...

If you hold the accelerator to the floor while you crank, the ECU will not fire the injectors. It assumes you're trying to cure a flooded condition. That way, you don't have to remove anything. Just floor it and crank. I always use that method after I change the oil.

Nice! I always wondered if a garden sprayer couldn't be modified to use like that. Remove the sprayer wand, attach a valve and fitting to tap into one of the unused ports on the oil distribution block, fill the sprayer tank with oil, pump it up, and open the valve to fill the engine through the oil system.
A person would have to be careful not to overfill that way, but I bet it would do a nice job of priming the engine.

That's not the best way to do it. Better to prime the oiling systems with the engine not turning.

Pack the oil pump with lithium grease...worked great for me! If you have a new oil pump in your hands.... try turning it's gear and make note of the resistance. Now, pump it full of lithium grease and start turning by hand again. The grease takes up the clearances and you''ll feel it pumping/having resistance right away. with this happening, it will start picking up oil out of the an asap.

Bu, if it's all timed... do as simon says

Just make sure to close the valve while the hose is not connected to block it will spray the celling just trust me.

Hmm. That might be something to add to my theoretical design. Some sort of valve on the tank to let off the pressure so it can be opened up once you're done with it.
