Dave Rose and Chris Keene also set records for there cars but I'll let them tell the story!

    Great going!

With 107 in the 1/8th it seems to me like it would be worth putting an airdam on it now. Pretty much would "add" 5hp for every 10mph over 60.

Interesting, sounds more like one of those bodies that makes a a vortex cushion over the bed. Possibly could do a tad better with a flat plate on top of the tailgate sticking a half inch or so over the rear for straightening the airflow and allowing clean edge separation.

Re: Rampage hits Cayuga OSDAC Club day

I suck at explaining this, but here goes...

Form drag or induced drag is determined by the aerodynamic shape of a vehicle and how close it is to an airfoil or not.

If we imagine the vehicle as a simple airfoil it has an "angle of attack" with respect to the airflow.

A positive angle of attack is bad, air gets under the car, the lift vector is tilted back from the perpendicular and it causes induced drag and lifts the car from the road.

A negative angle of attack is good, it sticks the car to the road more and the lift vector is tilted forward from the perpendicular and is pulling in the direction of travel.

The angle of attack is approximately determined by the line between the point of airflow separation at the front of the vehicle and the point and angle of aiflow departure at the rear of the vehicle. These are equivalent to the leading and trailing edges of a wing.

To lower the point of separation between the air going over the vehicle at the front and the air going underneath it, one can use an airdam. Note that a sensible air dam should be as far forward as possible to allow the air the best path up and over, it won't like flowing backwards around the curve of a bumper. If you see an "airdam didn't get me anything" story, look at how it's rigged, pretty much always it's set some way back under the nose.

To raise the point of separation of the air at the rear of the vehicle, one can use a flat plate "trunklet" or a properly designed spoiler. On a rampage imagine a cushion of air swirling over the bed such that it makes a "virtual" fastback. If the air leaves this at a downward angle, it acts to lower the "trailing edge" of our airfoil and increase effective angle of attack. If it was straightened out with a plate on top of the tailgate this would effectively raise the trailing edge, and decrease the angle of attack.
