    L-Body engine bay wiring harness

I'm considering purchising a project vehicle - an 86 GLH-Turbo. The current owner says mice got into the engine bay and chewed the harness.

    1) How hard is it to get a hold of a new one?

    2) What ever happened to the Mopar Super 60 harness? Anyone have a part number?

the super 60 harness was just a 88 t2 harness, its VERY similar to a t1 harness 88 or 89 also

Well you can't just throw any old '88 TII harness in a GLH and be done. Lots of differences make plug and play impossible. The MP Super 60 harness was '88 TII, but factory configured to fit an L-body. An '88 TBI Omni/Horizon harness is close and requires the least amount of modifications to make work in lieu of the MP Super 60 harness. It seems the MP S60 harness was based on the '88 TBI L-body harness.

What mods are necessary? Is this just if you have a TI motor with a TII harness? I don't recall any issues when I put all my TII stuff in my car other than the wires being too long, but that's why I ask if you are referring to a TII harness going in a TI car.

Re: L-Body engine bay wiring harness

I was referring to the fact that a typical factory '88 TI/TII SMEC harness from a Daytona/Lancer etc.. needs a lot of work to make it work in an L-body. Other than stuff not being in the right place (relays, solenoids etc..) certain parts of the wiring are a bit long, and the bulkhead connector doesn't match at all. On my own GLH Turbo I have a modified '89 turbo Caravan harness and it required all the same mods a TII harness would have required with the only real difference being the charge temp wiring.

As far as the original poster, he either needs a replacement GLH Turbo harness, or the MP Super 60 harness if he could find one which isn't likely. All I'm saying is that it is possible to emulate a MP Super 60 harness by modifying an '88 Omni/Horizon TBI harness. You would end up with a much cleaner and nicer fitting harness than a modded TII harness from another car. I did a harness like this for a board member here 'mcaracter'.

Are you sure the harness even needs replaced? Can it be repaired?

I really don't know, I haven't looked at the car yet. I'm just trying to get prepared for the worst case scinario.

What really gets me is that I had the 2001 Mopar Performance book and must have tossed it out (it had all the Super 60 part numbers).

The Super 60 harness hasn't been available for about 5 or 6 years, and cost about $600 new. I got one of the last ones left . . . and foolishly sold it for way too little money.

No, I have no idea what it was. If you can find a Mopar Performance catalog from the mid-90s or back, it should be listed in there.

Even though it was sold, the harness part number is P5249534.

If you ordered it they would probably just say it is discontinued...

The other plug and play option is to find an 88 lancer/lebaron GTS that has a male pin bulkhead connector and use it with an 88 omni dash harness.

They are fairly rare but they do exist as a transition piece from when they went from the LM to SMEC in early 88. I have one that is in pretty good shape depending on what you are willing to pay for it.

Turbo L body harnesses aren't super expensive if you shop around a lot. I've seen a bunch of them go for under a hundred dollars over the years. I picked up one recently in very good shape for a very good price.

Very true if you stick with the LM.

The mods to make it a TII harness are pretty simple from there.

That was for the basic harness. Didn't include the SMEC, a single relay, solenoid, injector harness, barometer/map sub harness, alternator sub harness, starter sub harness, etc. Well over a grand if bought all new back in the day. I still have a complete S-60 harness still in it's wrappers waiting for a future project. Everything except that awful S-60 SMEC. IMO, piece of poop.

You could just make your own. I'm using the pm/lm still, but it would be easier using a smec.
