    oil pressure

Road testing my 85 Lebaron 2.2 T2 conversion. When it is cold the oil pressure is very good but as it warms the oil pressure drops to about 5 psi, no matter how fast I am traveling. I have put in a new oil pump and changed the main bearings, the old ones showed serious wear. I also found chunks of silicone in the sieve on the oil intake. The changes make no difference to the oil pressure. Does anyone have any ideas. I have a larger oil filter on it.

    Re: oil pressure

5 PSI at any engine speed is way dangerously low, I think the check engine light is triggered at 8-10 and pressure should go way up when the RPMS do.

Did you have the block sent out (is it possible the oil restrictor from block to head was taken out?) for the bearings? I wouldn't be driving that thing till you figure out the issue. Are you using a reliable pressure gauge?

I bought the motor from an auto wreckers a few years back and didn't strip it down and rebuild it, just installed it.

    Re: oil pressure

Did you plastiguage the bearings? did you check the rod bearings? did you replace the oil pump pickup? did you use anerobic sealer between the pump and block? did you install the o-ring on the oil pickup?

Good oil pressure cold is a sign you have some worn bearings or excessive rod clearance, or a bad crank.

    Re: oil pressure

No I didn't plastigauge the bearings, cleaned out the oil pump pickup and opened up the intake, used anaerobic sealer and did install the o-ring. I think I will remove the head and check for the oil restrictor and while I am about it re-do the head as it is noisy. I do have a couple of T1 motors lying around and one of the is a G head, will it fit the common block without problems? It is the block you sold me Simon.
Couldn't make it Thunder in the Valley, had to work and besides the car isn't ready.

    Re: oil pressure

It really sounds like an oil pump or rod bearing issue.

If the head is noisey, its showing you your low on pressure.

Yes, a G-head will bolt on the block I sold you.

    Re: oil pressure

plastigauge is fairly cheap and a necessity for ANY build, its always smart to plastigauge the bearings so when this problem comes up you know thats not it, and you dont gota tear the motor to discover that.

5psi is low, i would drive her 50 feet.
def sounds like bad crank or bearings...........

Okay, I suck at MS-paint but look at my cheezy arrow, the oil restrictor goes here.
