Is the SDAC Club planning on having a meeting spot this year?? Please let me know. Thanks.
i was wondering the same thing, scott. we are having the monthly meet at art vans parking lot at 14 mile rd on thursday starting at 5pm or so. i'll be there, barry, dodge shadow chick, rich tideswell, bluneon and a few others hopefully.
as far as sat the 16th, i'll be between 13 and 14mile all day if we dont have a gathering.
Sorry to interupt the thread, but I gotta ask, this 14 mile rd and 8 mile rd thing. Is it a distance from somewhere or is that the length of the rd? Sorry to throw your thread off topic. Thanks.
its kinda weird, lol. most of detroit and the northern suburbs are just huge square grids, not many curvy roads. each mile rd runs east and west, and they are exactly 1 mile apart from each other. so the distance between 8 and 14 mile rds is 6 miles due north.
8 mile rd is the dividing border between detroit and many outer suburbs, st.clair shores, warren, hazel park, ferndale, oak park, southfield, south lyon etc. 8 mile rd. (and most other mile rds) span across 2 counties about 60 miles or so. so you can run down 8 mile for over an hour from st. clair shores to south lyon, mi. or from st. clair TWP on 32 mile rd all the way down to rochester hills, mi.
simple right? no...
many mile rds. change names and then back to mile rds. (the rich neighborhoods have to have fancy names and some of the ghettos):
5 mile = davison
6 mile = mcnichols
7 mile = 7 mile
8 mile = 8 mile
16 mile = big beaver (lol)
17mile = long lake
20 mile = M59 = hall rd.
32 mile rd = fred moore hwy
i skipped alot, but you get the point
oh and we have 1/2 mile rds, like 8 1/2 mile road and so on
but they change names too even more so.
8 1/2 = toepher = meyers = something else further west, i forget, lol.
there, now you can get around detroit a little better, i still suggest a gps though.
mapquest a map of detroit, scan north a little and zoom in, you will have a good understanding of the lay out.
LOL. Thanks, I think. hee hee
Barry or Craig - Can you shed some light on the Woodward Cruise please. A few of us from Windsor will be coming sat and wonder if you have any set areas?? Thanks.
No - we have nothing set up for Saturday at all.
We used to have a lot reserved for us for free in Ferndale a few years back but, attendance was sparse so we gave it up.
As mentioned some GL members will be at Art Vans on Thursday night.
Sorry for the delayed response, Barry and I were away at the Mopar Nats.

looks like we'll just have to call and pm who we know and setup something at least keep our cars in a pack on woodward.
scott make sure you call me, i'll be there by 9:00 in the morning and should have a few other guys already with me. my r/t, probably 2 more r/ts, 3 if shellgame comes down, a glhs, dsc 89 csx and who ever else makes it out.
bring your crew with you!!!
Art Van - time and place, thanks
this thursday (14th) is the sdac meeting at art van on woodward at 14 mile rd starts at 5:00 pm
i doubt we could setup there on sat, it will be packed, i think if we are going to group up, we will most likely have to cruise in a group as parking is usually prepaid and already not available just about everywhere.
I should be there..... but more than likely without the csx. (See the Mopar nats thread... i fractured my collerbone...) so i currently cannot drive a stick shift car.
nice job on the explaination of the mile roads!

my dad is cruising in my 66 pontiac and i will be in my r/t, your welcome to cruise with me if you get bored of standing or is your dsm auto?
^^ Yeah, it can be a pita unless you grew up around here.
BTW, I live just north of 13 and west of Woodward. If anyone needs / wants a place to park thats close to the action, shoot me a PM, and I'll make it happen. I usually block off (for friends & family) the ~ 6 spots in the street in front of my house, and the driveway fits another 6 or so.

I'll be there tonight with an 86 S car and a 95 Stealth RT TT.

Its that time of the year again, time for the Woodward Dream Curse, er, I mean Cruise
The Great Lakes SDAC guys (and others) will be meeting again in the Art Van's parking lot on Thursday night starting about 5pm. Art Van's is on the west side of Woodward Ave near 14 Mile Rd. Actually we are in the funeral home parking lot, just north of the Art Van parking garage.
C'mon out. Thursday night is almost as good as Saturday, just not as crowded. Lotsa nice rides goin' down Woodward.
