    1-1/4" anti-swaybar bushings POLL!

There are TWO different types of 1-1/4" k-frame area anti-swaybar bushings in the 80's cars. One is the stock style and one is more of a "D" shape.

    http://polybushings.com/images/bushings.jpg

If your car takes the "D" shape one there are issues. The "D" shape one I have been selling fits BUT you can't use the stock bracket to hold it up. You need to add a spacer or use a flat bar.

I went out and bought NEW "D" style ones that fit correctly. But they are soft rubber. I bought them to potentially use to copy and make polyurethane bushings.

If I spend the money on this mold I would need to sell 30 sets to just pay the mold at my regular price. Price is $28 for all 4 bushings.

QUESTION! Would anyone buy these? And would you be willing to pay an extra $2 for these?

    Re: 1-1/4" anti-swaybar bushings POLL!

This is the problem I went into when trying to install the polybushings 1 1/4 inch bushings for my 89 Daytona Shelby. They seem to be too thick and big! Bolts are not even fully tighten yet.

I ended up have to buy the universal energy suspension 1 1/4 inch bushings and modify the bracket to fit my car. I don't see how the D bushings are going to work without the D shape bracket.

Perhaps you can offer to sell a pair of poly bushings at the control arms with the along with the Universal energy suspension 1 1/4 inch bushings?

Your issue was different than that of "factory" style or "D" style. Your issue was unique to say the least and your solution was perfect. I carry the brackets and bushings, just don't have them on my web site. Good point, I will add them! But would need to add a flat bar.

    Thanks,
    Johnny

I had the same issue when I tried your bar too Johnny. http://www.pnw-sdac.org/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=1014

So I don't think his issue was Unique.

    What year was yours?

Most all take one or the other bushings. You two do have an issue, something different. But not the bushing I plan on making.

    i'm in for those...
i had problems fitting your bushings and squeezed them to much. i had to put back the stocker in.

Johnny, i probably will use your complete swaybar kit...will those new bushings fit it?
I need to stiffen the rear first anyways, but thats what comes to my mind.

    thanks!!

The 89-94 kmembers are supposed to all be the same. With just the LCA's and sway bars being different over those 5 years. Maybe there's just a few of us that are paying close enough attention to not squish the bushing to where the sway bar jams up and doesn't move.

    Re: 1-1/4" anti-swaybar bushings POLL!

i need to get new bushings anyways, because i had a 89 1-1/4" swaybar on that car for about a year and completely destroyed my polybushings...
now switched back to my 92 1-1/4" and the poly's are so worn out, that i really don't want to corner FAST anymore

can bite my --- for having gone with the 89

I had the same problem with 2 89 K frames with the factory style poly bushings. They will fit, but they are really squished.

is that squishing not allowing the bar to rotate freely?

It does move alright as long as it has a good coating of poly lube on it, but they are hard to install, and just don't look right after you get them in. After looking at the stock bushings, they are the same shape and get squished exactly the same way, but the rubber seems to be more forgiving and takes the shape of the K frame better than the poly bushing.

    Re: 1-1/4" anti-swaybar bushings POLL!

Everyone is talking about an issue that is not what this poll is about. Not a bad thing, as I did not know there were this many people with swaybar bushing fit problems in the 89-9? cars. Seems like mother mopar changed the k-frame shape and not the bushing. By looking at the photos, the k-frame is similar shape, but not as deep. A new bushing shape would help, but that one could be modified by those that do have them. Maybe just take a little off the top and bottom with a grinder. OR maybe a couple washers under the bracket so it doesn't clamp down so far.

Smashing the bushing is not a good thing. It should fit the bar and the O.D. area pretty close.
