    Friend needs help for a Mas ECU

    A friend has a 91 Maserati 2.3, 16v, NON-Turbo in a Daytona that runs SCCA. Some pics and Info here: http://www.pbase.com/rmscott/imsa_daytona
    The ECU that they are running in the car right now has these numbers on it;
    523-4855 TDK M4490
    Here is a clip from an email that I received from him;
    We are now trying to find someone that can modify/program a spare Stock unit as a spare for the Dodge Daytona.
    If the one in the car fails we are out of luck without a back up. NOT GOOD.

    Do you know anyone else that has SUCCESSFULLY done this with the OEM unit?

    Is there anyone in the Forum that would know about this?

    If not, who should we talk with to replace the stock /modified unit with TWO aftermarket units , one main unit in the car and a spare ready to drop in.

    There is F.A.S.T., EMS, AEM, MEGASQUIRT, ACCEL, who can direct us towards the most compatible system with the Maserati DOHC motor?

    All of these companies have 4 cylinder dedicated systems.
    They all have different capabilities and huge price variation.

    Do you know who the OBVIOUS forum expert is that we can contact for some direction?
    Cheers.

    If you know of anyone that could help, please contact Frank Sanchez at; fsanchez20@comcast.net

    Thanks for any help or leads!

    That is interesting. I don't know that I have even seen any of the 16V Masi motor cals, but perhaps I just didn't notice them since I wasn't looking for them. Perhaps Rob Lloyd would have something for this?

    The IMSA Masi 16V motors were whole 'nuther beasts than the factory turbo stuff. Huge cams, high compression, and just over 300HP NA at 8500 RPMS I'll make a couple calls but he should try B&G Chrysler, they have lots of the Masi IMSA stuff...

    B&G is where he picked up his spare engine. But Dave is such a PITA to deal with, that he doesn't want to waste another year trying to find out that he won't help. If you don't live in his neighbor hood where you can go over there and have face to face with him, he will simply ignore contact after contact. But thanks for the thought Alan! Let us know if you find any one else.

    I have the stock Masi 16V turbo cal. It's based on the T2 codebase. Not very advanced IMHO. I'd love to see the NA IMSA cal, though. Do you know if it's SMEC or SBEC? Either way, copying the stock cal and making a backup computer should be no problem.

    Modifying/tuning it, though, is a different story. I'd have to see it first to know what I can do to it...

    I've often wondered Rob about the differences between the Masi cal and the T2 cal What kind of tables are different? Gotta remeber though, Lee Iacocca and Alejandro De Tomaso had the TC Idea back in 84 so plenty of the componants are from the 84-86 era

    Well, pretty much all of the tables are different (timing, fuel, PumpEff, adaptives, etc.). But, the code is 100% identical to the T2.

    Actually, I think the stock Masi cal is very conservative. In many ways, it's not even as aggresive as the stock T2 cal.

    A Daytona TII SMEC in an auto TC Masi is a 25HP upgrade

    Sooo, how close are you to an upgrade cal for the 16V Masis then, say, one that uses some +40's and takes advantage of the lower compression motor There are other Masi cals out there, I'm just trying not to make any drastic changes requiring new bottom end componants.

    I made a couple calls today, I don't actually know Frank Sanchez, but he knows the same folks in 16V Masi's that I do. He had already contacted my 'sources' Sounds like he just needs a copy though right?

    personally i'd go the standalone route...wether it's fast, aem, haltech or electromotive.
    basically build a 60-2 motronic crank trigger setup (+ a cam signal if in need for sequential fuel injection) and you're good to go with any ECU out there!

    way more to tuneability than on any stock cal.

    heck...if i can do that, then any racer can do 100times better!!

    If he just wants a backup, then yes. A copy will work. I'd love to make that copy (hint hint!).

    I could pretty easily make a modified Masi cal. The big question is - does it knock with the T2 computer in it? The T2 cal has more timing in many places than the Masi. Plus, the PumpEff of the Masi cal is just way wrong, IMHO.

    I could even base it on the 2.2 version of T-SMEC which would give you all the modified code features (switchable boost, 2-step, etc.)...
