    bearings

I thought I remembered seeing .001 or .003 undersize bearings before. But all I can find are standard and .010''. Anybody know of any slight undersize bearings for when a worn crank just gets polished and needs a .001?

    Clevite numbers:

    MS-1533P-.026mm for main bearings.

    CB-1269P-.026mm for the rod bearings.

    Re: bearings

That doesn't really help me...I need .001 undersize from the standard size. Looks like mopar is the only one that had them, if they are still available.

How doesn't that help? That's exactly what those part numbers are.

    Re: bearings

Sounds like you are looking for "selective fit" bearings, what you would use to make the clearance on each journal "just right". Common on Hondas, didn't even know they where available for our engines!

Yeah when I install them I will use plastigage to make sure it's OK to use the .001'' (.026mm) bearing.

    Re: bearings

That's how Clevite numbers them.. which makes sense, since our engines use metric sized journals.

My book says 1.968 to 1.969, INCHES! LOL. I guess thats 50mm though. I grew up building american V8's, so I never ever used mm. Plus I'm american all the way baby LOL. I even hate using the term BTU's when referring to an air conditioner or some kind of heater.

Exactly, hence his sig pic as 5/4 instead of 1.25 or 125%

Decimals aren't the problem at all, it's metric versus standard.

    Metric FTW!

The one thing I find funny is that the american system if referred to as standard... I don't see anything standard about it!!

Take drill bits for example.. You have both fractional sizes and # sizes.. How's that standard? Same thing goes for thread sizes. Sheesh!

    Re: bearings

Umm it's standard because you are in america LOL. The english language makes the least sense of any and is the hardest to learn, but it's ''standard'' in america.

    Re: bearings

Honestly, the only thing that bothers me is when cars (like ours) are a mix of metric and standard. Personally I like metric more, but I was a physics major so it is what I used the most.
No fun cars any more :(

Hah! Thats true. The other day I put a new horn on my dad's 95 chevy van. Well I went to go unbolt it, looked at the bolt, ehh 1/2''. Go get a 1/2'' socket and ratchet, come back, too small. OK, must be 9/16''.....DAMN IT! What the hell is a 13mm bolt doing on a 95 chevy van?
