otc scan tool questions

ok i have never owned one or seen one in action, but i bought a otc 2000 with the gm, ford, chrsyler and 3n1 cartridge.
i will be using this in a 91' r/t, dont i need a pathfinder cartridge for it? 95', 97, or pathfinder II?

does it plug into the plug by the console?
what all does it display/monitor and what am all should i be looking for.

sorry for all the newb questions but i am late on the bandwagon for one of these.

As long as the cartride goes up to 91 then you should be ok.

I have the OTC 4000E. I use it to monitor pretty much every sensor under the hood. You can monitor fuel injector duty cycles as well, up to 8 I think. The neat thing about it is you can choose which items it displays, and record them on your OTC and/or your laptop. I have mine recording on my laptop (well my old one before the mother board went out).

With the 2000 you can not monitor the 8 items the 4000 can at once. I think it is 4. But if you record the session, it records everything, not just the ones you have set to monitor. So you can go back and look at other sensors.

Check the TD Runlogger link in my sig for more information, but you want the 93 Pathfinder II domestic cartridge, and make sure you have the chrysler diagnostic connector.

On a 91 R/T, the diagnostic connector is under the hood in front of the drivers side strut tower. It is probably plugged into a protector that is mounted with the relays.

It can monitor all inputs and outputs to/from the computer. Like Kelly said, the 2000 can only display 4 items at once on its screen (the 4000 and up can display 8), but the 2000 datalogs to a PC just as well as the 2000.

Both the 2000 & 4000 can record 2 sessions of 60 frames each internally. All the datalogging does is allow you to "print" the recorded results to a PC so it is easier to see everything at once.

When I am going down the track I hit record when I hit 4th. I usually don't get to see 1st gear but I'm not worried about that either.

I could never get my 2000 to record a sesion, it would act like it was, but it wouldnt download-print to my laptop. I figured it was because it didn't have any built in memory, since that was a seperate box with the 2000. I ended up buying a 4000E, but I have not made a serial cable for it yet. Hopefully I will have better luck with the 4000. If someone could explain how to get the info out of an OTC2000, I'm sure several people would be greatful for an explanation.

The 2000, only displays two lines of data at once.
They make a longer data cable, that can be used to reach in to the car, to monitor while driving.

I made mine longer with 3 wires I pulled out of an old junk engine harness.

Yes, you can monitor knock in all four cylinders, charging voltage, injector pulsewidth, map sensor voltage, o2 sensor voltage, timing advance, knock sensor voltage, and i'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch. Plug it in and start playing with the menus, I'm sure you will figure it out pretty quickly.
