I try to make the GL meets when I am in town... participation has been anywhere from 6 to 15+ usually weather depending... always a good time

Hmmmm.... That might be cutting it close. In the past few meetings things started wrapping up around then. Meetings used to last past 9:00.

A bunch of us used to go to that every year, but interest just seemed to drop off. I don't really know why, but it has been 2-3 years since I have gone. I most likely won't be making it this year either. We'll probably discuss it at the meeting tomorrow night.

Saturday of the Dream Cruise (Aug 20 this year), the official day, is too busy there for many of us. So the GL meet is on the Thursday prior to the DC, this year on Thursday Aug 18. We meet at the parking lot that is just north of the Art Van parking deck near 14 on the west side of Woodward. The lot belongs to the funeral home there and so far the owner doesn't mind us being there on Thursdays (he rents spots out on Saturday though).

We aren't the only ones that meet there, but there is usually parking available for any/all that drop by. Some of us get there as early as 4pm, and some as late as 7 or 8pm. But the car watching on Woodward is just about as good as on Saturday. The cruising starts the week before or earlier, but the week of DC it is fairly heavy all week. The cops close Woodward and kick us out of the lot about 10pm.

We usually cook dogs/brats or something for a snack for our folks. There are plenty of water or pop (sodas) around, but alcohol is not allowed. If you are caught with alcoholic beverage you will be forced to pour it out, and you will get a ticket that is about $125. They have cops that patrol both on foot and on bicycles. But it is a good time and everyone is invited.

If you've never been to the Woodward Dream Cruise, it is billed as the largest one day car event in the world. For about 15-20 miles of Woodward Avenue, cars of all types from classic cruisers, to pro-street cars, to exotics, to the latest metal (and plastic) line both sides of the 8 lane boulevard. An estimated 30-50,000 cars and over a million people attend on Saturday each year. This is the 17th annual Woodward Dream Cruise. It is an event every car guy (or gal) should visit at least once.

+1! I've never been to the Saturday, but the Wednesdays and Thursdays I have in the past were great!
