    '87 Chrysler T&C SRT-4

Been meaning to put this up over here for a little while. Why the 20 pic per post limit?

It all started back in November/December 2007. We found a '87 Woody wagon at an insurance auction that had been an engine fire. We'd already been buying wrecked SRT-4's for resale, and had a few parts cars around. You can guess where our minds went...

    Specs:
'87 Chrysler T & C body, power everything with load leveling
    '05 SRT-4 engine and transmission (20k miles)
'04 SRT-4 engine and under dash harness
'04 SRT-4 Stage 2 PCM with toys, cluster, SKIM, Keyless entry
SRT gas tank and emissions controls
    Front and rear SRT discs
    SRT ABS
    Front SRT struts and knuckles
K-car 5 speed console and shifter
    Modified power split bench seat
    Working A/C
LeBaron 16" lace wheels to clear brakes
Giant intercooler off of a wrecked SRT
Quiet 3" exhaust that dumps under the car

I have 112 pics, here are the important ones.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Drivetrain, suspension donor...

    The finished product

With Cruiser wheels, the LeBaron ones are more sleeperish even though these look better.

SRT wheels are entirely too big

    Engine pictures:

    Its level

The motor we ended up using

    Axles

    Done underhood

    Turbo clearance

SRT Trans mount bolted right to the k-car body mount. The space there is taken up on the other side of the motor.

Upper right mount. Had problems with a bolt in single shear snapping and went to this hybrid mount. No problems since.

SRT bottom torque bar. Mount fabbed onto the k-frame.

ECU sits right where it does on the SRT. A little close to the fan, but this shroud happened to be broken perfectly to accomadate it.

    Suspension and Brakes:

    ABS module and SRT booster

Rear brakes with SRT discs. SRT rear hubs were chopped, milled, and drilled to bolt onto the K-car axle. Simpler than it sounds. Wagon e-brake cables work with the SRT backplates/shoes after the hole is drilled out slightly.

Modded SRT on left, stock wagon on right.

Front SRT struts were slotted for camber adjustment, strut mounts on the k-car were redrilled and ground out for clearance. SRT knuckles were used.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Intercooler, radiator, A/C, piping:

SRT lines were used, they exited the block on the passanger side stock. Chopped off, holes welded shut, block drilled straight through. I lengthened the short tube and shortened the long one.

Edit: Of course I did the above, but I really shortened the small tube and lengthened the large one.

Intercooler, inlet and outlet were moved around and bracketry fabricated. Only front end pieces removed/modified are the front radiator support for clearance and an air dam type thing was removed. Fits perfectly behind the reinforcment.

Resevoir for the intercooler sprayers. Its a washer bottle from an early 90's Dakota (old body style) with a hole made in the bottom for the toys pump.

SRT Stainless fuel line, rebent for k-car duty

Exhaust, glasspack has since been replaced with a quieter muffler

    SRT PS cooler

SRT PS pressure switch is mounted to the SRT rack. Rack is too different or I'd have used it, so I put the switch here.

SRT hydraulic clutch, the steel ends of the plastic SRT line were used with tube TIG'ed to the end. Brake hose was used for flexibility.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Emissions:

Gas tank, used to prevent a CE light and for most stock operation. Rear floor moved up by an inch, the seat bolts right on after the mounts were extended. Result is not noticable.

Vapor cannister was hidden back with the load leveling pump.

    Purge solenoid

Gas fill was made with a k-car fill end and various SRT bends cut and welded on. The SRT tube was much smaller and had an external vapor line, so I figured it'd be best to use it. Plus it works with the hose at the tank.

    Everything else:

Clutch pedal. SRT master cylinder is mounted to a 5 speed k-car pedal assembly with stops welded on and limit switches mounted. SRT brake switch is mounted in a modified bracket. The master cylinder interferes with the heater duct going to the left vent, but a tube can be rigged (duct tape) to make it work.

Shifter, SRT cables were used with the ends chopped off and k-car ends welded on so a k-car shifter could be used.

SRT battery tray flipped 180 degrees and bolted in the front. It sets on the trans mount and it solid. The mount also holds the SRT vacuum solenoids and mounts the tube for the air filter.

    That's an interesting key ring...

Split bench seat with each side narrowed slightly. Works out well with the 5 speed console.

Three pedals and a bunch of gauges and switches. Looks like fun...

I have to make a shroud for the gauges and put an acrylic face plate on them.

Broke this piece while trying to fit the radio, waiting to find another wood grain one without a message center.

Back side of the dash before I put it in for the last time. I hid the SKIM in the glovebox. If you don't want it stolen, just pull out the key that's taped in it and no one is starting the car.

Addon for the RKE to make the locks and gauge lights work properly.

    More pedal pictures.
