Question First Start after swapping Turbo - Please help

Hi, this is the first time that I had my head off and things like this. The good news is, apart from some remaining tubing we are done and ready to start the car.

I am just worried to get it right, therefore please review my action list and in case correct me if I got something wrong:

    1. We filled roughly 4 liters of Oil
    2. We filled the radiator with coolant.
    3. To get oil pushed up we cranked the Engine a couple of times without starting it

    Now my questions:

    1. Now there is coolant in the radiator but shouldn't we have filled coolant before mounting the termostat on the engine block side as well??? (We didn't, it occured to me on my way back home

    2. Will cranking without starting provide sufficiant oil to all important places as to not screw up things and if not what should I do??? I am thinking after all about my turbo...(we left oil above the lifters and the camshaft before closing the valve cover)

    3. Is there a break in procedure for a new turbo???

    THANKS ONCE MORE!!!

If you simply had the head off of the engine, you'll be fine.

If you had the ENTIRE engine rebuilt, I would prime the oil differently.

Leave the oil drain back loose and crank the engine until oil comes out of the drainback. This ensures oil flow to the new turbo.

Ah Thanks! It was only having the head off and new turbo etc was put in.

...and on the coolant side?? This worried me yesterday on my way home, will it be able to cool automatically with the termostat closed and not sufficient coolant in the block?

I am asking this, as I understand it like that the coolant in the block gets warmed up, opens the termostat and allows water flow to the radiator. Now, if there is barely water in the block but lot's in the radiator, how does the block get filled with coolant? Maybe I am just paranoid. But therefore I'd like to know.

    Thanks!

Normally, I will top off the radiator and leave the cap off while I start the car and let it idle. When it reaches temp, the t-stat will open and the level in the radiator will drop. I then top it off, cap it off, and go. Check the level after a couple temperature cycles.

Break in for the turbo is....

Make sure oil come out of the oil drain tube when you crank the car.
Idle the car for a couple minutes... and your turbo break-in is done.

btw.. for future refrence.. the rad will drain cause the water pump will pull all of the coolant out of it and force it into the block
