'89 Lebaron 2.2 turbo1, car not starting properly

On way back from SDAC I stopped at gas station to let the rest of of caravan to Chicago catch up. In gas station for 15 minutes and came out and car cranked but didn't want to start right away. So I opened hood and let it sit 5 more minutes, it started but kind of missed. So I hurried up to the interstate and after I got up to speed it worked okayall the way home.
Yesterday after sitting all night it again cranked and eventually started. No codes present. Fuel filter, spark plug wires, Chrysler hall effect are all new. Would you suspect a fuel pump?

Could be fuel pump issues, does it happen more when the tank is low?

    No,
Tank is more than 1/2 full. If car sits longer than say a hour it has hard time starting, it just keeps cranking. As soon as I start it the second time it starts.

Try cycling your key between off and run 3 or 4 times prior to starting to let the fuel pump repressurize the system. I think there's a check valve in the fuel pump that's supposed to keep the system pressurized while the pump isn't running. Sounds like yours might have started leaking and letting the pressure bleed off. If it starts easy after trying this, then I'd say that's the problem. Either that or your regulator is leaking a little internally and letting the pressure bleed off while the car is sitting.

You could confirm this with a fuel pressure guage. Connect the guage, run the engine for a few seconds then shut it off and see if it holds fuel pressure or if the pressure gradually bleeds off to nothing.

A leaky injector could be letting pressure bleed off also, but checking the fuel pressure certainly sounds like the right step in troubleshooting it. I've got a pressure gauge you're welcome to borrow Jim, can bring it to Belvidere if you haven't got it figured out before then.

Good call on the leaky injector possibility Dave! I never thought about that one and it would explain the misfire he mentioned too since that cylinder would be flooded.

I certainly will check fuel pressure with my son's fuel gauge. And while out selling a garage door I talked to a ex-maechanic at Cadillac for 30 years. He suspected fuel regulator or injector. I pulled vacumn off fuel regulator but really saw no sign of leakage.

Fuel pressure first, but I've seen a bad coil do the same exact thing. My daytona CS did that a few times before the fuel pump finally left me stranded though. It still had good pressure so try and do a volume check which is more accurate IMO. Should be listed in the dodge garage or a service manual or somewhere what the volume should be.
