    Recomendation for a good fan?

The title pretty much says it all. My Omni will get pretty hot while cruising on the freeway in temps approaching 100*F. I have a parts store fan on there now that pulls around 1400CFM IIRC, and I have a shroud for it, but it just doesn't seem to cut it at higher ambient temps. What would you guys recommend?

The car shouldn't be getting hot cruising on the highway.

Either, your radiator is clogged or the radiator is not getting enough airflow.

If you have a spare fan that will pull some high CFMs and still allow me to change the oil in an L-body shoot me a PM please.

I guess I should have stated that the rad is almost entirely blocked off by my IC. Lord knows no one has seen the car outside of family and roomates since it always breaks right before an event.

I'm guess it's much better than my intercooler?

You have got that nice spot up top there where air can still get in.

Have you tried an air dam, cooler thermostat? I have to run a 180 now that I moved the condensor in front of the rad.

    How about a better rad?

I am running the stock front fascia, and a 180* T-stat. I have thought about making up something to block the airflow around the IC and rad, but that would be involved enough that I would just as soon try the larger fan first. If the larger fan doesn't cut it, then I will probably make up the ducting followed by the larger rad. Although there seem to be plenty of people who have successfully used a TII rad to keep the car cool.

got a hood vent? +1 on an airdam. how about some pics? of your setup. I've got a cummins in the nose of my tona which all the air vents feed and a T2 rad with a block-off plate for the stock I/C. The chin is sealed from underneath and I have a S10 airdam underneath. Zero issues with a stock 3.0 V6 flush motor fan and a 195 t-stat. I also left the stock rubber shields inside the nose around the i/c. So all the air going in the nose has to go through the i/c then through rad and out the bottom of the engine bay.

There are some pics that look horrible in retrospect. I wish I would have taken the time to wash a little bit of the car and clean out some of the junk from underneath it. I do have a fan shroud that I made now rather than just the fan sitting on the core.

well from the pics the problem I see is that all the air escapes around the radiator and intercooler and goes straight to the engine bay. Which just builds high pressure behind the radiator and makes even less air go through it. Not sure why you cut so much metal out, but you're gonna have to add it back and add some new stuff. You want low pressure behind the rad and high pressure in front of it just like your turbine The fan doesn't even come on in my tona when it's 105 out as long as I'm going faster than 25.

i just bought another fan off of ebay like the one on my GLHT. 2000 cfm 14" fan, w/ mounting brackets, $34 shipped. The one on my GLHT works GREAT, but I dont have a big IC in front of my rad.

Make some shrouds and force the air to go thru the intercooler AND radiator.

Have you ever thought of switching the polarity of the fan and mounting it to the front of your radiator?...making it a pusher? I've done this trick many times as it will then pull air through your intercooler and push air through your radiator. I don't know if you have the room but it accomplishes many things...and sure cleans up the engine bay real nice like

I had actually thought of that when I put everything together, but I just don't have the room for it without having to move the rad back quite a bit.

I agree that you should not have heat issues when moving, but if you want a GOOD electric fan, Derale is the best IMO.

Re: Recomendation for a good fan?

We all know its not the fan but it seems he's trying to band aid it so to speak, he has crappy airflow so a quick fix is to try a fan, to get airflow thru at all times,

Lesson #32 from the School of hard knocks.
It's easier to fix it right the first time.
