    Lower control arms

Just got back to rebuilding my omni's lower control arms, and there's a LOT of play in the front bushing. I have a full set of Poly bushings on the car, and there looks like a big gap on the front side of the forward one. I'll have pics tonight.

Anyone know what I'm referring to? To add to that, does anyone have the hammer in caps for them? I think that's the culprit, and cant find mine.

    Re: Lower control arms

I don't recall any caps for the front bushing, just the rear strut type bushing. That could be where your play is.

    Re: Lower control arms

My car is an 89 horizon. here are the parts in question.

this is the right bolt, yes?

    See the gap?

The rotor looks a bit far out from the car, this also worries me.

From the back, still a big gap.

Should there be a sleeve to the bushing?

    Re: Lower control arms

I just looked at mine, there is not washer at the front of the bushing but there is rubber there, that your missing?

Thats not the right bolt, it shouldn't have the wider diameter as it goes to the bolt head, that could be why you have the gap, its compressing the bushing as you tighten it. The bolt should be the same diameter the whole length.

    What knuckles are you using?

Hmm... that bolt looks VERY familiar. It's been a while since I had the suspension apart, and I don't have L-body experience, but I KNOW I used THAT bolt on something.....

    Re: Lower control arms

theyre 89 mini knuckles. That was the only bolt that would go all the way through.

Maybe so but its the wrong bolt, it shouldn't have that shoulder on it, thats your problem.

    Re: Lower control arms

That is definitely the same bolt that was factory on my '89 CS Daytona suspension. I definitely remember that taper.

I will pull a bolt out of my spare Mini K-member this afternoon. There supposed to be straight bolts for that control arm.

    Re: Lower control arms

I think the bolt is right, because it is tapered and should fit snuggly into where it sits, but it does seem like something is missing on that side, like a bushing or something.

Sorry didn't get a chance to look at my setup today and take pics. But I thought of something this morning, your bolt is in backwards. The threads should stick fwd. Give that a try 1st. I'll be at my shop tomorrow and get a pic for ya.
