Factory non-A/C GLHT has vent go to engine comparment??

Was working on my new GLHT today, and noticed somehow when I look through the vent on the far left (drivers side), that I could see into the engine compartment. Went to the engine side, sure enough, there is a hole into the engine compartment, that looks factory, and goes right to that vent.

This is a factory non-a/c GLHT, so maybe its suppose to be like that. Anyone know for sure?? I imagine this could let lots of hot air into the interior of the car!

my non-ac 85 SC is like that. now the vents on both side of the dash by the doors, you should have a small lever on the vent that you can open or close to keep the air from coming in. So it is normal to be able to look right thru them.

They also seem to leak cold air in the winter.

Yeah those of you that store cars during the winter better close these as they can be doors for insects and rodents. A couple of years ago I was bringing my car home from storage and was getting pelted with d-con all the way home! Also you should cover the areas up with foam or something, same with the HVAC vent in the cowl area. Rodents can play havoc in your interior over the course of months.
