WTB: L-Body Manual Rack and coupler

Thinking ahead on the Rampage build-up and I would like to go with manual steering on it.

Looking for a good condition rack and the coupler to the steering shaft. Can pick up at SDAC also.

How is the manual rack different from the PS assisted one? Besides the OBVIOUS, is the ratio different and how much harder is it to turn? I've run my car without PS and it was pretty hard while just sitting there, so is the manual pretty much like the power assisted, just sealed?

Re: WTB: L-Body Manual Rack and coupler

The ratio on the manual rack is different, it's easier to steer than a power rack with the hoses looped, but harder than a properly functioning power rack.

I figure the Rampage will be built for mostly straight line acceleration and fuel economy, niether of which have me too concerned over the extra effort and loss of quick steering.

Actually something Dave doesn't think he has.... Haven't looked through the stack of racks in the barn, but can't remember ever getting one of these.

I saw your post over in Robs thread, what did you do for the coupler, or did you find a used one?

I got my whole rack from a junkyard with coupler. I'm wanting to replace my rack for a new one and have been looking at these new one's. The flaming river has a 9/16" 26 spline input shaft. I'm not sure about the unisteer one yet.

Re: WTB: L-Body Manual Rack and coupler

I have a coupler for the rack for sale in the FS section. I am asking $65+ shipping.

Here is a link to the thread. My rack was completely shot so it was no good and got rid of it.
