6 bolt flexplate vs 8 bolt

I am putting together a new short block . I got a forged crank from ebay. It uses 6 bolts instead or 8. I purchased a 6 bolt flexplate from ebay. Guess what, the six bolt flex is larger than the 8bolt flex(in diameter). Also the the 6 bolt only uses 3 bolts to hold the converter(while the 8 bolt, uses 4 bolts ). Did i box myself into a corner?. Is there a year model i can use that has 6 bolt and 4 converter bolt openings

Are you sure you got a forge crank?

All factory forge crank is 8 bolts.

The 6 bolt crank, flywheel, and 3-bolt torque converter would all be '85 and older parts. The forged cranks weren't available until '87.

The torque conveter to tranny lug will be different too.

It's probably one of those 2.0L forged cranks. For some strange reason they are all six bolt units. I know some people say you can redrill the six bolt flywheel to work on a 4 bolt converter, or you you can swap the pump and converter for an 85 down unit. Either way you need to re-examine that crankshaft to see what it is for sure. The diameter should be the same though between 6 and 8 bolt flexplates.

Yes it is a 2.0 forged crank. The center hole diameter is the same(fitting over the crank flange ) for both flexplates. After pulling out the last three hairs on my head, I decided the redrill the latter flexplate(from 8 to 6 ). I figured i would only have to redrill 4 holes, two of the existing holes are already there. The bolt diameter is also larger on the 6 bolt crank. After i redrill the the 8 bolt flexplate to 6 . i am going to cut down the 6 bolt flywheel and use this over the other redrilled flexplate.
