I don't quite understand how to burn the SST27SF512 chip. This is for a 89 Daytona Shelby.
I have Willem Eprom PBC5.0C software and burner, how do I burn two different program onto the chip? How do I set of the off set?

I want to say it is 8000 for the SMEC, but I would have to look it up to see if my excellent memory is giving me the right info. As far as burning the chip, you should be able to set it up per the LM burning instructions on my custom cal page at www.omniglht.com

Not sure how the Willem software works, but the software for my EMP-10 lets you specify the starting offset in memory for the file to load into. The address calculation is a bit confusing and that thread is not quite right for your situation. Your '89 SMEC used a 27C128, which is a 128kb (kilobit) chip or 16kB (kilobytes). The 128 series chips have been out of production for a long time and most of us are using 256 series chips. It has twice the space and so you can burn two 16kB SMEC images in. The chip has an extra pin assigned to address that extra memory but the SMEC does not know about it. It can only see one half (or "page") at a time. By toggling the extra pin to 0V or 5V, you will cause the SMEC to "see" the first or second page. You can do this mod yourself if you know how or you can buy a "switcher socket" that allows you to control this pin.
You have a 512kb chip, which is 4 times the size you need (64kB) and so there are 2 extra pins to switch between the four 16kB pages. Confused yet? It gets worse:
The software likely wants the starting address in hexadecimal, so you need to provide the address that way. To show that a number is in hex and not decimal, you usually prefix it with a "0x" or a "$". The address ranges for the pages are:
0kB = 0x0000 - 0x3FFF
16kB = 0x4000 - 0x7FFF
32kB = 0x8000 - 0xBFFF
48kB = 0xC000 - 0xFFFF
Hopefully that helps. You should notice that the cals for the SMEC are 16kB files. Some are released as 32kB files, which is the same cal repeated twice so that it fills an entire 256kb chip.
I should add that the '89 T1 SMEC has a larger 32kB image and uses a 27C256 chip. You said Daytona Shelby, so I assume it's a T2 image which has a 16kB image.

OK, so Ladybug is a 32kB image. You can see it end at $7FFF. When you load it, there should be some way to specify the base address. You want to put it at $8000.
You just need to put 8000 in the third box up on the lower right where it says offset.
So, I don't have to worry about burning the program twice?
What I usually do is load the image twice into the buffer and burn it once. Another alternative is to make a 64kB image file with two copies of the file back to back:
copy /b yourcal.bin + /b yourcal.bin yourcal_32k.bin

You don't have to do anything twice, you already have the BIN loaded just put 8000 in the box specified offset and when you click to burn it will ask you burn at 0x08000 offset? And select OK. It will burn, and you are done.

Hopefully tryingbe's got it all figured out. I actually have a willem programmer that I don't really use after getting my Moates.net one. I changed to the moates burner because I didn't feel like carrying a power supply around with me.
The moates software is really nice, it will calculate the starting offset from the size of the bin and the size of the chip auto-magically. So anyone looking at this thread and being scared away from burning chips, don't be. Just don't get a willem programmer. A moates one will do all the work for you.
Although, I still do the same thing Russ does with the copy command. It's simple and I've never had a chip that didn't start my car.
I didn't know if the extra address pin was tied high or low on the SMEC. Burning two copies guarantees that it works.

So is the 89 T1 SMEC better suited for burning then? I have one.. Maybe I should hold onto it being as it takes the newer style chip. So I take it a 27C128 chip is going to be virtually impossible to come by? I do like the idea of being able to toggle between cals.. would be good for driveability with a car running +40's or bigger.

What are you talking about? I'm currently using a SST27SF512 chip with 83 lbs injectors, 3 bar map, and matching cal on my 89 Daytona Shelby. Idles fine, pass AZ smog, and got 23mpg last tank.
What driveability are you talking about?
Not really. It doesn't matter whether you have a smec or a lm, either will take a 27sf512 or 27cxxx chip (assuming the 27c is big enough to hold your cal). You just need to make sure the offset is correct when you burn the chip or use the copy command. Getting 2 cals on the same chip is a little trickier than setting the offset, though. Also, as tryingbe said, the driveability shouldn't be bad with +40's as long as the cal is setup properly.
