Black doesn't show leaks as bad but my preference is to go with a ford blue or gm orange that way if I have any leaks I can get em fixed asap
It's mainly a matter of personal preference. I went with black because I like the understated stock look.
Kevin Isenberg EVERYTHING is for sale!
I painted mine black. I have a whole black/polished theme going on though so I was following that. But black is the best color IMO, although I saw a 2.x block painted silver once and it looked alright.

They paint the blocks black because it hides oil leaks the best.
As for what colour-any colour you like is best.

If I paint the block, it's usually orange or blue. For the same reason already mentioned. However, I cleared the engine in the GLHS because I have a black/silver (or cast) theme going.
my last engine was black cause the wifes pink motor got dirty fast. AL
I paint all my engine blocks "cast aluminum" POR 15 engine paint. I get a lot of positive coments about them. It makes the 2.2 a little more modern looking.

My buddy used blue POR engine paint. It still looks excellent. He says it washes clean pretty easy.Originally Posted by gkcooper

Mine is red.
Its been scientifically proven that hot pink will lower your oil temps by 15 degrees, so thats the wise choice
I say deseret sand there eef the queef (aka duche dodge) and you know why.
or the hot pink should be reserved for sandy briggs and his dress wearing omni
Mine is painted blue(kinda baby blue...) I didn't do it, the previous owner did. It doesn't actually look that bad on a white car. I might take some pics this weekend and I will post them.
If I was painting a motor, probably, clear, or silver like already mentioned.

The 2.4 I am putting in my charger will be Chrysler turquoise (Por 15 kit)and the tranny is por 15 silver.
I used chrysler copr blue. I used that dupli-color engine paint. I used the primer and then I used the color. It looks great. I will take some pix of it this weekend.
they probably mentioned the black because there is a debate that black actually disapates heat under the hood better, plus it hides dirt like everyone else mentioned
here's my new motor.
Very nice, is the head just bead blasted?
