Exclamation Need Advice on Driving 3 Bar Car with 2 Bar SMEC

    Hi,

    I need urgently advice:

    Car: 89 Daytona 2.2 Turbo 2

I have modified my car so that I can operate it with a FWDPerformance Trim Cal, so it has +40% Injectors, 3 Bar Map and HighFlow Fuel Pump.

Now it turns out that the TrimCal does not work. However, the car is now in a Garage taking up space. Being in Spain until I have sorted out that issue with the TrimCal could take weeks. Therefore my question:

How risky would it be driving the car like this (3Bar Map/2 Bar SMEC) 60 miles home?

My worry is based on the fact that I have the 3 Bar Map installed. With the original 2 Bar SMEC it starts up right away and idles fine. However, the moment I put the 2 Bar Map in the car dies right away from Overfueling I suppose.

Therefore my question of driving it with the 3 Bar MAP put in operated with a 2 Bar SMEC.

    Thanks for your input!

    Hi,
when I put in the 2 bar MAP the car starts and dies right away.

I thought of that as well, thinking the worst which can happen is being way rich. But it does not hold idle and when i put throttle it dies as well.

With the 3 bar map in it starts up right away, holds idle and accepts throttle. I can move the car.

But if my maths are right I should be in danger of running lean. The reason why I even put that question is that I thought that perhaps the +40 Injectors compensate for this.

you have to adjust the fuel pressure since the SMEC isnt set for +40's. Either way you deff dont want to be boosting it much, just cruising(seems like you would know this and take care)

THANKS, yes I imagined that my problems could arise when in boost. I think I'll give it a go.

Keep in the 3 bar MAP, you'll run leaner with it on the 2 bar SMEC. If you have an adjustable regulator, just turn it down to ~35-40 PSI and you'll be fine just cruising.

It will run fine, just might be lean on top or in the midrange-so watch the fuel and add some if needed. I was driving my van like that before I parked it to see if I could squeak better mpg out of it but it was actually worse?

Hi, got the car home. And yes, I got a slight idea what I am going to get once I have it calibrated right, and I must admit, it boosts my spirit! Thanks for your help!

I've done it a few times. I didn't have problems. I had the boost limited to around 8lbs. My EGTs never complained nor did the knock sensor.

You should be alright, as long as you don't live in boost all the time.
