    Installling the OBX LSD.

I'm going to be installing my LBX LSD next week and i'm just wondering if there is anything i need to know befor i go ahead and do it. It's going in a stock 90 A523.

Do i need to shim anything or is it just a matter of pulling the stock diff out, swapping over the ring gear, putting new berings on the LSD and re-installing everything?

any help would be great. thanks guys!

Get your self a shim pack from the dealer. Your going to need something like .050" extra shim.

EDIT: Obviously don't just throw .050 worth of shims in. You will have to put the diff in, then measure the end play, take the measured end play and add something like .008 for pre load. Then you can adjust a few thou either way to get the preload set correctly. I think I had to add like .055 or .056.

The splines can be a little tight when you slide the axles in. Check them on the bench before you install everything.

Mine were too tight, I use a whl cyl. hone to open up the diff. AFTER and I repeat AFTER the bearing are installed on the diff. I heard of some people getting lucky and didn't have to hone it.

I was one of the lucky ones. But agreed...AFTER the bearings are installed.

This is exactly how mine was, the hone will let the axle fit but its not the root cause of the issue. Look at this thread starting 1/2 way down

I slipped my axles into the diff last night and they slid in nice and smooth. didnt have to force them at all.

mine wouldnt go in with out the bearings on the pass side, the gear was made at a slight angle like in that link. It would go in if I loosened the OBX but when together it was off

It's the bearings for sure. I test fitted mine on the bench as well and they fit fine. It was after the bearing install that they bound up.

If necessary, yes. Trial fit will tell you.

I took the un-installed diff and slit my axles into it and the slid in fine. Should i be expecting to have this issue AFTER I install the berings and the rest of the stuff?

Yeah, after reassembly and the bearings are on, give it a try.

Press bearings on *first*, but I always found the *smooth* part of the axle is what binds, not the splines. I hone the diff carrier out to get the axles to engage properly, never touched the axle gears yet...

    Re: Installling the OBX LSD.

with bearings pressed on mine the pass axle would not go in, so I unbolted the OBX and the axles(tried both) fits in everything just fine, the gears and the housings. I put the bolts in loose and stuck the pass axle in , then torqued the bolts, could not get the axle out.

Basically there are know to be several issues that are from the poor quality control.

this is retarded. With this latest news, I'm just gonna take it to a shop to get installed. But with what you guys are telling me is that i'm looking for a $300 install price over the $150 i was told. I'm getting sick of this crap.

You get what you pay for. It's as simple as that.
