    Ford Escort GT

I knew this kid about a year ago, he made the statement that a Escort GT could take my old Camaro, and my Shelby, any day of the week. Well...I made him cry today.

I was coming back from Omaha on the interstate, doing about 65MPH (gas milage) when a black Escort GT comes up pretty quick on me. As he gets to the side of me, he hits the brake, takes one look at my car, realizes who it is, and downshifts to take off. I let him get about a mile ahead of me, then leave it in fifth, and put the pedal to the floor. I get upwards to about 100MPH as I go around him, I change lanes at the last second, and pull up next to him, taking my foot off the gas. He looks at me, downshifts, and tries to pull away. I just put the pedal to the floor again, leave it in fifth, and trow away from him.

That'll teach him to mess with a Shelby!

(Kind of a dumb story, but I felt the urge to post it, along with his quote on my Shelby)

"I am very sorry about the last comment.... Just because you listen to all the music sounding like its a girl singing with lyrics talking about how there life is ---- and how much they hate some girl is ridiculous. I didnt mean for those harsh word to come out of my mouth! I are such a horriable personn sumetimes. I dont wish to be that way, but when I am stuck listening to bull ---- stories of some ---- bomb 80's charger going 800mph in first gear... I just dont know what to do. I can only sit here and dream of one day having a mopar. O how I will love putting oil in it every six seconds To bad the hemi had to be the worst out of all motors in the 60's..... It is proven but not everyone haves a brain.... well one that works. But this is only something I can assume thus making me an ---, but it is ok with me and also for you cause I already know the saying like father like son. Both you and your dad are very closed minded and you know it all (maybe you do?). I for one, know nothing and am ok with that, but you Paul are a story only few have the honor of knowing. Anyone thinking he is a great driver (lawl) and can beat anyone is a race is funny. Especially because you have only have ---- cars with famous names. I do like the camaro and think its a step up from the charger, but consider the fact both dont have the balls to beat any ford escorts. Please assume I mean mine, Cause you know it's faster.... Everything I said has statics backing them up (I do suck at driving, I did wreck) But enough with this meaningless rant about you and your life, which I must say is in all ways better than mine Seems I feel another rant coming on. You are a great person with a lot to offer to someone..... I mean look at you... Crazy hair, crappy music taste, slow cars...etc"

Who needs to set him straight?

Escort GTs are usually low 16s high 15s without mods. (Do about the same as neons) But can take most mazda BP bolt ons, and can go lower 14s N/A while still looking pretty innocuous. There's one or two folks running around with 350HP or so intercooled turbos in them, which is pretty quick in 2400lb of car and some might strip them out.

    That was my car.
I bought it, engine was blown, sold it to my father. Now someone in Lincoln bought it.

    Look familiar?

Also, while I'm thinking about it, that Camaro was an L69. Slightly faster than the other 83Z28 Camaros. And this kid with the escort GT...tired old car. Over 200K miles, automatic, and beat to crap.

Yup, that's the one. I really wanted it, but couldn't justify it with the Charger project already over budget, and the Regal waiting in the wings. I know the kid who bought it, he pops up on here once in awhile. He has a new engine in it and has been driving it, just has to get a few bugs worked out.

Heh we had an older Escort GT come into work, I had to put a new shifter assembly in it.

I took it for a drive, wow, those things are quick for a stupid little Escort!

by older do you mean the pre-91 model? Those were single cam Ford motors, but had big valves, factory header, warmer cam, could be tickled up to 150HP fairly easily, some talk of them being able to make a streetable 170HP.

Like I said in another thread, I've already got a Brick, just doesn't have the turbo engine. It's a '79 Limited with a 305/4bbl that will be getting all the leftover parts from my old '78 Sport Coupe- Buckets, console/shifter, suspension, and of course the bulge hood.

This is the car as it sits now. The only real rust is what you see on the roof- the undercarriage is amazingly clean, especially for a Nebraska car. The body is completely straight too aside from a cracked grill. The $100 I paid for it was a steal. And nothing but love for the '82 and up cars, but man I love the taillights on the '78-'79 models.

And this is a photochop I did of the finished project:

As you can see, I have a lot of work to do, but the drivetrain will be the last on the list. Yeah, that 305 will be slow, but they're dead reliable motors and it will suffice until everything else is done. Right now I'm just having a lot of trouble tracking down the drip rail moulding so I can ditch the vinyl top.

You mean the smaller non-vinyl molding 'eh. Hmmmm....do you just need the rear windshield trim and the two pieces on the body pillars(one on each side)? I can possibly help you find those.... And about the grill give me lots of pics. I can see about that too. I don't see those at the yards much anymore with the high price of steel, but I am willing to look for you. Let me know...

Got the grill covered already actually, another piece I saved off the '78. I'm honestly not sure about the rear- and quarter window trim, but I'd guess that it's different as well. I just know the drip rail moulding above the windows is one solid piece front to back on the non-vinyl top cars, whereas it's broken up by the B-pillar band on the vinyl top cars.

Anything you could help me find would be much appreciated.
