Clunk while reversing out of parking spot with wheels turned...

    Hey guys,

Have a non-tm question, but I would assume it could really happen on any car, so why not ask here, eh?

Anyway, 00 Mitsu Diamante with 50k.

When I leave a parking spot, I usually reverse and turn the wheels hard.

Now, when I reverse and turn the wheels hard, once I first hit the brake to put it into drive, I get a serious clunk from the front driver's side. Doesn't matter which way the wheels were turned.

And to throw an extra tidbit into it, if I have an empty parking lot and I just keep the wheels turned and go backwards and forward, it happens every time I push the brake to stop my roll.

Any thoughts? My first thought was cv joint...but i find it weird that it doesn't happen if I don't hit the brake.

Sounds like a CV joint to me. Of course, my '97 Decrepid was doing something similar and it was in the strut mounts.

Brake caliper loose. And yes it may only do it in reverse.

It sounds like the same problem I had with my LeBaron. One of the caliper anti rattle clips had fallen off allowing the caliper to rock backwards while braking and reversing at the same time. Once I replaced the clip it never made the noise again.
