That was fast (that's what she said).

Did you put softer springs on your rear shocks?

Haha! ya beat me to it! lol (just kidding) although several ppl are already calling for wheelie bars on the Charger trying to convince me it will get me 1.3X 60's!

Really looking forward to results on your beast! Only thing that freaks me out is what about uneven ground? I would imagine you need to be carefull where you drive with that thing. I've seen some pretty scetchy pitting areas

The rear springs are not on yet but will be in the 100lb range.

I think the BSX will get in the 1.3x for sure with this setup, with time possibly 1.2x's, wouldn't that be sweet?! After the run when putting the chute in the car, the bars can be released via 2 quick release pins, allowing the bars to float.

Possibly the weekend of the 20th. Not sure where yet, gotta look to see what's available. I'll let you know.

    Nice!!!!!!

Question, how far back does the chute go when deployed, and is there any chance it could catch on the bars when deploying?

I'm sure you thought of those thongs, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

BTW, you make me jelous with how clean you make and install things! Just WOW!

    Re: BSX progress....

So hydraulics are still a No no? I keep hearing stories about some FWD car that has hydro bars that retract at half track and are huge $$$'s but I thought that was not track legal?

    Re: BSX progress....

Yep, no hydraulics, air cylinders, etc. Bars are not to move relative to the track during a run.

The bar will have a net on it to keep the chute from getting tangled or going under it.

So there going to be fixed, no springs to allow movement?

If they had springs to allow movement they wouldn't be nearly as effective

    Re: BSX progress....

I've seen videos from import drags where they have wheelie bars that react based on rear suspension movement. I do believe those are illegal for NHRA and IHRA sanctioned events, however. That design, I noticed, was used primarily on manual transmission cars.

These will only really be effective at the launch where the most weight transfer will take place, which is exactly their purpose.

    Re: BSX progress....

When we made bars for the Fast Fiat (You tube Fast Fiat Crash, still a favorite of mine) a few years back, they looked a lot like yours Brian, they turned out to be so flexible/soft, they needed to be triangulated in two spots between the top and bottom bars. Some vids showed they were deflecting almost 30 degrees on launch. FF is a RWD car so not sure it applies to your set up. Went from 1.32 to 1.19 ST's tho after the bars were modded.Nice fab as always Slowe Man

    Re: BSX progress....

Those are called wheelie bars. Really on a FWD they should be called wheelbase extension bars. For RWD you don't care as much if the wheelie wheels move and the springs can help dampen the violence of the front end lifting off the ground as they usually sit a bit higher off the ground to start. In FWd the more the wheels can move/flex the less reaction force you are getting at the front tires so having springs is less desireable plus they sit closer to the ground so there is less shock when they touch. The wheelbase extension is also why softer springs are mentioned because you want it to come into effect as soon as possible. I can't say I have any experience backing up my comments but that is how I see the physics and logic of it.

PS nice job Brian but I thought you were putting them on the front like we discussed.

I know, just curious being solid that bad things could happen, IE bumpy track the rear bounces, causing them to hit the track etc. I too have no experience with them.
