    Tranny diff?

I got a 555 here that I suspected need diff bearings because it had a good bit of side to side slop. After I pulled the diff I didn't find any shims, I was told there are shims in there to set the preload.
So my question is was someone screwing around with this tranny and just not put it back together right (didn't look like it to me), or is that OK to not have any shims?
Anyway, the one bearing cup was a little chewed up so thats what I suspect the play was.

Anybody know a part number for NAPA for these bearings? Nothing came up on their computer for M/T diff bearings.
Will I need to use shims now or what?

You will likely need shims to reset the preload once you reassemble it. The dealer parts guy should be able to find them though it will probably take some digging. Be sure to measure it several times before you order since they are a few buck each.

But thats the thing, I talked to a friend of mine that said he's never seen a trans without a shim in there, but mine didn't have one.
Has anybody see a 555 with NO shim?

They should be able to cross reference the number.

As for shims, never seen it but it can happen, just check preload when your done.

OK OK, don't mind me I'm having a retarded moment. A-18 I used to cross reference, looks like they are only $5.50 a piece. Not bad-

    Re: Tranny diff?

Still would like to know if anybody has seen a trans without a shim before, need to know if someone was screwing around with this trans.

Also, while I'm at it. Does anybody know a part number for the rubber O-ring seal that goes out the output shaft/tailshaft (or whatever you want to call it) on the passenger side?

Take it in to Napa and have them find a match. They have a bunch of differetnt Ø o-rings in stock.

Get axle seals while your at it. I don't know that PN off the top pf my head..

Troy- Yeah I already had axle seals I was planning on replacing in any tranny I put in.

The guy at napa said he didn't have any O-rings that big, I already tried

    O-ring is obsolete, use RTV.

Dealer item, call or visit your local dealer and have them bring out the diagrams.
