Can holes in a truck bed be welded shut?

The moron that owned my truck put the screw in snaps in the bed. Now they have a little rust around them... not bad, but I want to take them out and clean them up. Can they be welded shut easily? I don't mind grinding it down or the bodywork, I just haven't done that before, and don't know if it can be done.

How big are the holes? I weld up 1/4" or smaller holes all the time.

^ Woo hoo a hat trick!

I've welded em as well but sometimes If there's a little body work to be done around the area I'll lead em in.

Yeah, really DAWG, I think you got your point across

I don't do welding, that just makes me a little weary of doing it. I can't imagine that the holes are more than 1/8" and I don't want the damned snaps in the bed anymore. I gotta get it home.

Yep just keep the heat down and you wont have a problem, you also will want a good clean surface to start with so sand of grind the rust away.

Guess you could braze them if you're worried about blowing bigger holes trying to weld.

Well, I guess it is kinda like being afraid to paint my car. I'm just a little hesitant to go out and do it for fear of screwing it up worse than it is.

Would a flux core wire welder work okay???

I'm thinking a penny, a charged up battery and a set of jumper cables can manage this job.

mask off the area that you dont want spatter on with some pop cans. the flux core spatters alot.

this is gonna sound crazy, but if the holes are small and you don't have access to a welder, solder them shut
rough the area up with some 80 grit and coat with some paste flux, build up a bead of solder and then file or sand flat.
the old timers called this leading the body.

the nice thing about it is that it's real low heat compared to brazing or welding, so you don't run the chance of warping a body panel

Like I said earlier lead the suckers in!

You need a propane torch, lead(yes wheel weights work), tinning flux, a paddle(think wood spatula) of some sort, a little tallow and you're golden!
Always put on more than you need as you can't add later...
