What is my rear end in my 04 Ram

Guys - need a little help trying to figure out what my rear-end is in my truck.

This is what I have:

04 Dodge Ram 1500 Qua Cab
2 wd
Automatic
Hemi
I think 3.92 rear and opne gears

Need to know what the rear type/spline is so I can order a posi or locking unit for it.

Anyone have luck with I think the power trax units that swap for the spider gears?

No codes or labeling shown on the door jam or glove box staighting anything remotely close to being locking or limited or posi rear.

Beleive thats a 9.25. Should have a sure grip in it i think too. If it does, the clips are prob already floating around in there. Happens often

No sure grip - I verified and the dealer I got it from contacted dodge on it and came back negative.

I thought it should but not - So I am on the hunt for what it is exactly to order my parts.

Pretty sure all the 1/2 tons got a Chrysler 9 1/4" diff in them, not sure of how many splines.

I was thinking 9.25 as well, but at some point didnt they switch to American Axle or Gear or something? or was that just the bigger rams?

2500 and 3500 did change, 4wd front was 9.25AAM rear was 11.5 AAM or Dana.
You should have the 9.25 with 31 spline axles.

Not sure how soon you need it but I may have a factory posi with 3.92 gears available in the near future from my R/T.

9.25......... I would hit the junkyards and find one. It is going to cost to convert to limited slip. Does your truck have the image pack with the 20 inch wheels.

THere may be a sticker under the hood that may also tell ya what axle you have

The truck does have 20's on it.

I was looking more to do the powertrax conversion since I do not want to screw with re-shimming and all that jazz.

I will look under the hood sometime Wednesday.

Like the truck but with the hemi and great tires...... it is hard to get traction plusI would like to put the 354hp to the ground at the strip this year a few times.

Yep, 9.25" American Axle. I believe they switched when the Ram was redesigned in '02/'03. Standard ratio with the Hemi is 3.55 but most are 3.92. I don't recall ever seeing a truck that left the factory with the 20" wheels that didn't have 3.92s but that doesn't mean that they aren't out there! lol With the bigger tires, I think they were preferred to have them anyway. I made sure and specifically ordered my Ram with the 3.92s and Limited Slip.

I recommend you change your gear ratio. 275 55 R20 are tall tires. When you add limited slip it is hard to break the tires loose. The truck can use a higher gear ratio. Your truck should have the 3.90 in it. 4.10 and 4.56 are your next choices. I have an 04 standard cab that I am looking into making the change. Also adding one of these

Early 03 with the low output cummins got the 10.5,Stick Ho's got the 11.5.Later 03 with the Ho and Auto also got the 11.5.When I bought my 03 with the HO you couldnt get the auto yet which was fine by me.
