which trans, A523 or A568... (with LSD)

I'm buliding a hybrid 2.5l. lets just say for argument sake lets say 350/350.

i have the option to run either a stock 523, 568 or make a hybrid trans. I would prefer not to make a hybrid. The car will pretty much be only used for drag racing so i'll be bagging on it every weekend. I have an OBX LSD ready to go in as well.

To use OBX LSD, you have to have a hybrid or A523. So, A568 is out of the question. You said you don't want the hybrid, so that leaves you with A523...

I would do the hybrid, But the 523/OBX would do just fine.

523's are plenty strong enough for 350 WHP, but putting in an OBX you are taking out the weak link in the tranny anyway-the diff.

The early 523's had the same size gear teeth as a 520... I would rather have the course 568 teeth for a drag car. The teeth fell off 2nd gear in the 520 in my Shadow after ~80k miles and 100 13 second passes in my Shadow...

Well you said the ''early'' 523's had smaller teeth like the 520, I would assume then the later 523's had larger gears. Otherwise I assumed you would have said all 523's have smaller teeth.
BTW, my 520 with moly plate in my heavy 12 second daytona held up fine.

Going from the chart, I would assume all 92+ 523's have the coarser gears.

Hmm, I had a thought. Since the V6 A543 was a pretty popular trans, it would probably be easier to find the 3:50 FD 543 in a junkyard than a 523, and the diff's should be interchangeable right? I know there's a lot more V6 cars here anyway.

Yep the chart shows that they (late 523/568) should be the same.

EDIT: I have no idea on the V6 stuff, avoid it like the plague!

sooooooooo just an up-date. i picked up a 90 A523 with the 3.50FD.

I think i'm gonna put the LSD in it and run that for the year.

Not that rare, if you're willing to buy and pay for shipping, you will find one.

It was only made 1 year in small spline, and most are 3:85 FD. It's pretty rare.
