    Re: no heater fan

Did you check for power at the fan? it could be the resistor block has bit the biscuit but seeing as its bypassed in high, it could be the switch or fan.

    Re: no heater fan

No fan at all on any setting. Next step is to tear into the dash. Not likely today as light will be gone soon. What made me think it was a fuse initially was that the rear defrost doesn't work either, its switch is located right above the fan control.

Where is the resistor block on a P body I looked under the hood and didn't see it (I know where it is on a van)?

    Thanks Simon,

Is there one that just feeds the heater/ac fan and rear defrost? where do I find it?

I'm not sure if they are both on the same circuit.

Here is a little info on fusible links.

    Thanks Dave,

that is what it is Im sure. I recall a puff of smoke rising from the hood on the drivers side when I started it up today. Barely turned over and the fan was set on high. Must have done it in.

    Re: no heater fan

I bet thats it, theres a bunch of them over the drivers side strut tower area. When they blow, they get all mushy, pretty easy to see.

    Re: no heater fan

Got a chance to dig around a bit this afternoon.

Pulled the intake hose off the computer and what do I see? A white wire with a little burned nub sticking out of the middle of it. Soft and squishy (if that's possible at this temp) on one side of the nub.

Blower motor ran fine, no dry bearing sounds, all speeds worked except the highest (it worked intermittently) but I didn't need it so no big deal. I'll see if I can replace the link with a Pacific fuse or something like that.

I'm hoping it was a combination of the cold weather, blower motor on full tilt, and a starter that has seen better days pulling alot of juice. That may not make alot of electrical sense but I will see if it pops it again.

As always, thanks for the help.

When they get old, they get weak. Its possible, if you have everything on at once, it spiked and burnt the link. I replace with fuses.

    Re: no heater fan

If you do end up changing out the blower motor, be warned, the impellers on them get very brittle. I thought I was being smart by seeing if the impeller came off before buying a new replacement motor... it did, very cleanly... so I bought the new motor... and the fugger split and cracked up trying to get it on the new shaft.... so I ended up with a used unit in there, and a new motor sitting in a box waiting for next time...

    Re: no heater fan

blower motor works once more...along with the rest of the car. Replaced the fusible link with a maxi fuse. Hopefully the rest of winter goes smoothly. Oh yeah, I'm driving an 18 year old car...so who knows

    Re: no heater fan update

Update: Now that we have hit the other end of the weather spectrum (35*C) the maxi fuse I replaced the fusible link with has popped three times in the last week (twice today). Haven't replaced the old starter as it doesn't act up in summer (that I can hear anyway, but it is on the replacement list). Something is drawing too much power. Either the switch, the resistor block or something else. What else is on that circuit?

What has me confused is the fuse blows weather or not the blower motor is on when I start the car. That is, the blower will work (on any speed) on one trip, I shut off the car and the next time I start it no blower motor (fuse has blown).

Car is 90 sundance 2.5 tbi
