just installed my wideband but very weird readings

ok so i installed my wideband (innovate) thanks cindy

before i installed it the car seemed flat anywhere after 2nd gear and i would have the egt alarm go off (1650) didnt know why. installed the gauge and took her out for a ride 10.5-11.0. i know im running rich BUT my egt alarm is going off why ??? timing at at 14 deg

i unkooked my knock sensor as advise that my cal might be seeing the sensor and backing my timing so im like ok took it off and guess what now i have a reading of 9.6- 10.0 but still have the alarm going off.

Where should i turn next. what should i do.

With a stg. 5 cal, I doubt that your high EGTs are a result of to little timing. I would back off the timing a couple of degrees and see what effect, if any it has on the EGTs. I would then take out some fuel. It is possible that it being that rich has caused your EGTs to go up.

ETA: I haven't looked at any recent stg. 5 cals, but I would not run anything over 12* with one if you don't have any way to monitor knock.

I meant to visually monitor with the CEL, or scanner, or log the knock sensor. That is the only way to truly know what is going on with it, although you can certainly feel it pull timing when it is pulling all of it. That is probably as close to toasting the motor as you can come though.

Re: just installed my wideband but very weird readings

I've heard similar results of extreme rich conditions where the fuel is lighting off in the exhaust causing egt's to go back up

I've been told to trust the wideband
just slowly remove 2lbs or so of fuel at a time and try it again
coming into the boost carefully and keep checking your progress
make sure your not too lean in other areas though

ok when the snow melts here ill hook up my solus scanner and have a buddy watch the knock readings and i will take off a few lbs of fuel at the same time IF the knock seems good

Trust your wideband... to a point. Even innovate will admit that their connection system isn't exactly the best soloution. Also, calibrate often... I like the innovate but it does have room for improvement. I got weird readings with an innovate and then I recalibrated it like four times and boom it worked... Could be me being useless though.
