    Angry Dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today marks a day that will forever be remembered.

My 89 Shadow decided to go out in a blaise of glory.

And when I mean ablaise, I mean it literally.

I was at my local Home Depot shoping for some supplies. And over the loudspeaker comes a voice saying, "Will the owner of a white 4 door, with the liscense plate XXX-XXXX, please come to the return counter."

Well, I knew it was my plate number and was wondering what has happend. Maybe a forklift backed into her, or another vehicles may have backed into it.

When I reported to the desk, I was met by a rather excited manager. He asked me if that was my car, and I said it was. He proceeded to escort me outside towards my Shadow. I didn't get but 10 feet outside the front door and it hit me. About 30 feet off to my left, towards my car, was nothing but black smoke bellowing like a Kuwaiti oil rig after Saddam's forces set it on fire.

With the Firefighters there, they asked if I was the owner of the vehicle. I was too much in shock to answer them. After that, they stated that they had to force my hood open to put out the flames.

Needless to say, the engine compartment and hood are completely destroyed. There are absolutely no rubber hoses left under the hood. All the wires are bare, if they exhist at all. The battery is nothing but a molten blob of plastic. And everything is covered in a nice shade of Carbon Black.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the car just yet. I may part out the good items. I may just junk the car. I dunno just yet. But I highly doubt that I'll venture to fix her.

    Just had to vent,

    Wink

    Thumbs up Re: Dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, to hear about your car. I had a bad fire under my '87 Shelby Lancer hood also. I have tore everything out of the engine compartment. It's now stripped and primed. It takes a long time but it can be done if you have the desire. So good luck !!!

Funny thing is that the fuel hoses are still intact. But all the vacuum hoses and coolant hoses are gone. The fire originated from below the intake manifold. I'm guessing something got on the turbo/downpipe and started to flame up from there. The hottest area was near the firewall behind/under the intake manifold.

Leaky power steering? That's been known to cause fires by leaking PS fluid onto the exhaust...

Sorry to hear your car's dead...that sucks!

Sorry to hear about your Shadow. The engine compartment probably looks something like this one. http://www.pbase.com/rmscott/burned
It was my wifes car and only had 32K on it when it went up in flames in Apr. 97. I wish I knew then, what I know now about Turbo Dodges. I would have bought it back and saved the engine/trans at the very least. The jaws of life under the hood against the front fascia doesn't help the looks of it at all. Good Luck. I hope you can salvage some good out of it.

Damn Wink that's too bad! I hope you get some good money out of parting it then.

I'm more than convinced to always carry a fire extinguisher in the van.

    Man that sucks.

The OEM turbo oil feed lines like to blow and start fires, but the car is usually running at that point. I've heard about and seen plenty of older TI cars that this has happened to.

SS lines to the turbo when I installed the Garrett. Funny thing is that the SS lines and the fuel lines are the only ones to have survived the fire.

Could also be a couple other things:
    1. Leaking fuel injector at the o-rings.
    2. Leaking Schrader valve on the fuel rail.
    3. Leaking oil from the valve cover.

Right, but sometimes it can squirt up onto the manifold and hot parts. An exhaust leak at the donut can also heat up those lines.

I had a split in one of my fuel lines going to the rail...I saw a stream of gas spraying right onto the hot intake and down to the exhaust and smoking off....that about scared the crap outa me!
