How to tell what Number your car is?

This weekend I should be picking up my first GLH. This car is being given to me from my uncle how has had it forever. It's been so long that he can not even remember if it is and '85 or '86. It is a 2.2 turbo, blank w/red interior. I know once I see it I will be able to tell what year by third brake light. Has '86, doesn't have '85. It ran but had a gas leak and check engine light when he parked it 2 yrs ago. Had a '90 Horizon in '90, and a '92 Duster w/V6 in '92. Then a Neon in '95 which gave me nothing but bad luck. Have been into Fiero since '96, but have always wanted a GLH. Bye Bye Fiero, Hello GLH.

Back to the point of the thread. What tells me what number GLH this car is from the Vin number, or is there something else on the car that tells me what number (ie #225) it is?

Thanks, and it feels good to be thinking Mopar again.

    I think it's production year - last 4 engine serial # or something like that. So, 1986-serial# 1761 = #225. But I maybe wrong.
No fun cars any more :(

Re: How to tell what Number your car is?

well, first off congrats on the GLH! Enjoy it, they are fun cars!

next, the answer to your question is your car doesnt have a "number". Only the 1986 Shelby GLH-S, 1987 Shelby GLH-S, 1987 Shelby Lancer, 1987 Shelby CSX, 1988 Shelby CST-T, 1989 Shelby CSX-VNT, and 1989 Shelby Dakotas recieved numbers as they were limited run cars modified by shelby at his factory in Whittier, CA.

Your car was made on a Dodge assembly line.

This isnt a bad thing as the 86 GLH-S was based on the GLH.

As for the VIN / serial number thing, they have nothing to do with each other. When Shelby assigned a car a number they literally reached into a 'bucket of numbers' and pulled one out. Except for maybe the first 2 or 3 cars, thats how it was done.

Really? I always though there was a formula to it. I'm pretty sure that model year - engine serial# thing works on my 89 CSX for getting the car number. But I very well maybe wrong.

yeah, when you look at the lists of car numbers and vin numbers, there isn't any correlation between the two. Ive got the list for 87 GLH-S cars at home, and its true for that list. Now that doesn't mean by 89 they didn't have a different way of doing things.

I think that works on the CSX's that had a plaque with the shelby engine serial number on it. However, that number doesn't match what's stamped on the block or the VIN tag.

Steve, best of luck with the GLH, let us know when you get it home and feel free to ask for help with getting it running.

There was an 86 Dodge Lancer Pacifica, it was a decked out TI car and was the first H body to get the rear spoiler on top of the hatch (later used on the 88 and 89 Lancer Shelby). If I remember right they were all white with matching white pizza wheels.

Nope. Not even lancer shelby's. If it doesn't have Shelby's name in front then it's not one of his car's. Now the pacifica's were a small limited number, but didn't get any specific number given to them.

Re: How to tell what Number your car is?

Well, its unofficially numbered, lol. The last 6 numbers are the production run, so if you got a "000001" car, yours is the first one made, and so on,

    10th digit is the year, so 85 would be a "F", 86 "G" etc.

actually that would be 100001. Sequence numbers start with that, not 000001.

Of course I cant find the pics now, but the 86 Lancer Pacifica was a limited run of 500 built, and the original keychain had the number of the car on it. I will continue to look for the pic I have of the keychain.

been following the thread here. I sure would like to find a Lancer Pacifica- don't think I ever saw one. The white wheels would look sweet. It's hard enough to find a nice CS Lancer.

Re: How to tell what Number your car is?

I've come across one in the JY and someone drove one around town for awhile, but haven't seen it since. Left a note on the windsheild to see if they were interested in getting to know the cars a little more, but no response. The Lancer shelby's are better I think. Mainly because it's T2 and it had cooler decals, plus I've seen pics of an 89 in black with black and silver snowflack wheels and it was bad ---. I'd take that over a Shelby Lancer any day. I think it's harder to come across Daytona Pacifica's more than Lancer Pacifica's, at least down here
