Well, which turbo did you run the 10.84 @ 130.47mph on? I'm sure you'll want to run at least that fast, or faster for Pinks. The GT35R does sound like a nice turbo though, I've been reading about that one for a while. I've also been reading a lot about the newer Precision turbos, they sound nice too. Some impressive numbers going down with those on Evos.

The T3/T4 is the only turbo that has been on it for years... yep 10.80's on 29psi... only went low 11's on 34psi cuz the charge was to hot with the B cover... If I keep it on i will at a minimum get a E cover/backplate

Didn't see if you just got a new head, or repaired your old one... was it ported? I have a stock 2.4L head sitting in my garage, if you needed one quickly you should have asked. :P Maybe I should throw it in the trunk so you have a spare head at Pinks. :P

I was told that the GT's had BB durability issues. Precision developed their own ceramic BB because of it.

I'm not saying BB is not better and the T3/T4 I am proposing that is almost identical to the 35R would have one.

Funny thing is that when you look at the compressor map... yeah, I was told the 60-1 HiFi wheel I am currently using is a bad match for both the 2.2L and 2.4L I have had it on. Doesnt seem to work too bad. Another reason why I'm not a fan of comp maps.

So, in summary... wheel diameters,. wheel aerodynamics and comp maps are all for reference only and the the whole package on the turbo has to add up for the application.

So simon.. what RPM do you reach full spool (and at how much boost?) with that 35R? I'm not talking brake torquing, just from a 1000rpm roll in 2nd gear and flooring it.

Full spool around 4100-4200, its the same loading it up or hammering the gas already moving.

I am not sure if any of them have gotten it right yet... especially when 'oil only' ... I was actually stunned that the new Precision BB is not offered with a 'coolant' option

I guess Garrett is smart on the fact its water cooled.

Precision claims ther new ceramic BB is so badass it dont need coolant to stay cool. ...I'm guessing its also cus the BB is so large they didnt have room for sufficient strength and sufficient coolant passages?

Yeah, that was with a too tight converter and a very loose engine, thru full exhaust and a medium sized IC, lol.

Something I found interesting while taking my senior detail design course for propulsion (we had to design a high-bypass turbofan jet engine that would compete with the GE90-115) was that the surge line on compressor maps are *chosen* by an engineer. It is based on a few things of course, but basically just because there is a line there doesn't mean the compressor won't operate on the other side, it just will be operating in conditions that an engineer deemed to be outside of optimum performance for whatever reason.

So, basically if you are close to, but on the other side of the surge line...I wouldn't sweat it!

Yup...and right out of Precision's mouth....after that 500 rpm spool up difference, they are identical.

Plus, it still spools good on the streeet. I really gotta downshift with that 3.05fd though.

Jt, i remember the old turbonetics catalog list the turbo you have as being a super H trim to4b, ive got a regular H trim 2.3 X 2.75 super h was 2.3" X 3", but the to4e 60 trim is the same wheel size wich im going to switch to soon as my h trim only gets me 26 psi max so far with a ported b cover, maybe im wrong and theres slight differences ? I also thought that the 60-1 hifi was a little bigger wheel ?

In addition to getting the head on and back together, I also made some mods to the alternator mount to hopefully keep the damn belt on, and got a good dent into fabbing the 4" pipe

From my notes for various Turbonetics catalogs the wheels are as follows:

Comp Wheel - I - E
H - 2.298" - 2.750
Super H - 2.298" - 3.000"
60-1 HiFi - 2.324" - 3.000"

The 60-1 and 60-1 HiFi are the same dimentions but AFAIK they have different vane profiles.

I bet that H wheel spools pretty quick with a smaller exducer? Well... I guess that would depend on what you have on the turbine side!
