Broke a axle and the trans all at the same time? That sucks! That new trans looks awesome! How did you get it lookin so good?
Actually they were a separate runs. re-quoted the run breakdown from the Nats below. Pretty sure the axle only went cuz it went thru all the 26" tire hits and built up fatigue cycles
Thanks, the trans case was corroded to F and filthy too and I couldn't really see the surface so I spent a lot of time with wire wheel and wire brushes to clean it thoroughly and inspect for cracks.

Catching up... run recap from Monster Mopar Weekend in Norwalk in September.
It was a GREAT event, and a lot of fun racing with Reeves, OhioRob, 92TurboSpiritES and more and hanging with all the SDAC crew from the several Chapters in attendance!
First time running at Norwalk and know from taking MB's Talon there for the DSM shootout that it is a nice track and hooks well, so after the Nats' carnage I REALLY didn't want to break anything so I figured it would be a good time to practice really hard to leave soft and drag the clutch a ton... which resulted in a lot of red lights cuz if it rolled, I went, LOL! I just got it back together the weekend before and it drove around the block OK, but hadn't the opportunity to take a test hit yet so I planned to start out light. Took 2-stage boost off and back to 29psi setup. Also, back to a 3.50:1 FDR so I needed to re-learn the shift points... anyways, here goes:
Friday Time Run 1: Slipped clutch and bogged off line then short shifted 2 and 3 ~ 29psi
R/T .029
60' 1.913
330' 5.162
1/8 7.597
mph 105.46
1000' 9.597
1/4 11.261
mph 136.86
Friday Time Run 2: Slipped clutch and bogged off line ~ 29psi
R/T -.063
60' 1.896
330' 4.964
1/8 7.272
mph 109.65
1000' 9.206
1/4 10.833
mph 139.18
Saturday Time Run: Slipped clutch and bogged BAD off line ~ 29psi
R/T .083
60' 2.135
330' 5.175
1/8 7.362
mph 110.19
1000' 9.404
1/4 11.029
mph 139.33
Hmmm... OK, what to dial? I asked MB and she was thinking 10.90 because it was off from the Friday run, but the 11.02 was on a crap 60' and it went 10.83 Friday... I really didnt want to lift so... how about 10.79?
Saturday Round 1: Slipped clutch and bogged off line ~ 29psi
Dial: 10.79
R/T -.138 <= I saw that I red lit so I ran it out the back door. I woulda lost anyways, the other car went 10.528 on a 10.52 dial with a .060 R/T!
60' 1.878
330' 4.874
1/8 7.147
mph 110.73
1000' 9.080
1/4 10.705 <= Breakout, but who cares! LOL!
mph 139.76
Sunday Time Run: Slipped clutch and bogged bad off line ~ 29psi
R/T -.035
60' 2.079
330' 5.162
1/8 7.443
mph 110.35
1000' 9.387
1/4 11.005
mph 139.86
Again, what to dial? Using Saturday's strategy and not wanting to lift, 10.69 it was!
Sunday Round 1:
Dial: 10.69
R/T -.081 <= Another redlight but he redlit first so I got a free pass
60' 2.057
330' 5.148
1/8 7.428
mph 110.81
1000' 9.346
1/4 10.953
mph 141.02 <= where did the mph come from!?
Sunday Round 2:
Dial: 10.69
R/T .154
60' 1.790
330' 4.770
1/8 7.024
mph 108.42
1000' 9.022 <=About 1000' it cutout for a second
1/4 10.688 <= breakout by .002 from the dial - passed the other car at the stripe and crossed first by .0115. Would have been nice to win but I'm more mad that it cut out cuz it woulda been a 10.fifty!
mph 136.70
Now the past couple years I have probably used the words "cutout" and "breakup" more than I can remember and may have interchanged them. Earlier this year at SDAC-24 it was breaking up and that problem has been solved since swapping plugs and closing the gap. The cutout issue on this last run is similar to what I had a lot of all last year which I think is more related to cam sync since it is usually just one stutter then it runs again. I thought I had fixed this after SDAC-23 (Muncie) when I relocated the cam sensor wires and it was gone all year until now...
Other than diagnosing the cutout it was leaking a little MTL from the bell housing and the clutch did feel soft on the 3-4 shift the last run so oil on the clutch or a severely abused clutch trying to make parts live, or the new input shaft seal got nicked on install. Either way the trans has to come out and the clutch needs rebuild anyways.
Great weekend overall for the car not only running well but able to drive back on the trailer. Many folks stopped by to see what it was and most commented on the mph.

Glad to see a decent pass while slipping the clutch on launch. I never saw any pics until a few weeks ago when I realized FB had some :P
Not sure how to cut a good light without a staging brake and that wouldn't help you get your slip just right. A lot of people driving to save their drivetrain are probably not competing in brackets :P
Would have been cool if you had a before thickness measurement on your clutch disc(s) because I would want to slip it even more if you could get away with it but heat will probably get out of control.

I really think the 24.5's wont hurt the parts nearly as much as the 26's so really was just trying something different... The twin disk is really grabby so I had to slip the F out of it to not bog or spin tires. I'm guessing they melted some I plan to get a re-build kit and can measure the old to new disk thicknesses
Yep, I always wanted to fab my own, but Reeves made a group buy on them and its a real nice piece. My nuts feel nice and safe thanks to Reeves

In between working too much, planning SDAC-25, etc. etc... every spare minute I dream about driving the Z again and want to try to make some improvements.
So far the plans to start off this year...
-Rebuild ACT Twin Disk clutch
-Install Lengel's bearing plate
And, drooling over Lengel's handiwork endplate here and wanting to put the test to it makes me want to try the 26" tires again, but I think I need a better axle solution first. Of course Lengel is already crafting his own axles and I realize I don't have a turbo block, so using the SRT4 axles is not as easy as it would be...
Anyone have an SRT4 Quaife and set of SRT4 axles with mounting bracket for sale for a decent price? I think that's where I need to start for fitment...
Anyone know of any brackets to attach the SRT4 axles to the back of the NA block? So far this is the only one I found:

Finally took a few minutes to work on the car... The clutch was soft on the 3-4 upshift and possibly some slip in 4th so sending the clutch out for rebuild.
