I have to say that the fixture helped... but drilling the crank was still somewhat nerveracking! LOL!

looks good. how much of a struggle was it to keep the bit cutting the steel of the crank rather than bending and digging into the aluminum?

Forgot the update...
No start Thurday night so I had a ~130+ mile commute home from work last night so stop at a speed shop to get a new MSD non-magnetic trigger. Fired up fine with the new trigger but was too late (noise) to set the timing, so not track today... BUT, I just got the timing all set and other stuff buttoned up and took it around the block a couple times

You've made a ton of progress in a very short time and I'm quite impressed. Can't wait to see it at SDAC again.
Thanks guys, yeah, I cant wait to get it out to SDAC too!
I know the feeling... yesterday was the first time since sometime last year that I was able to drive all 5 cars (3 TM's, Dak & neon) at the house! ... and the other 6 TM's stored elsewhere are far from running, LOL

OK, after waaaaay too long, FINALLY an update!
Got it running a couple weeks before SDAC-21 and drove it around the block twice so went to the event with about 1 mile on the new bottom end... yes, for 2011 the Z got a new block/crank/rods/pistons plus an ATI Damper and a new solid hub 6-puck clutch disk with the old PP and flywheel. It seemed to run OK, only issue was a header leak that seemed to seal up when warmer...
Here are the runs
Run #1 - Right off the trailer, 14psi in the tires (higher than normal) cuz I wasn't gonna launch it hard and wanted it to spin a little as to not shock the new stuff... spun hard out of the hole, spun in 2nd made ~20psi
R/T: .380

330': 5.445

1/4ET: 11.983
1/4mph: 122.58
Run #2 - lower tire pressure, wasnt gonan launch it but wanted to *try* to tree Angelo, LOL, no luck. spun in 1st and 2nd.. 20psi
R/T: .091
60': 1.827
330': 4.999

1/4ET: 11.303

Run #3 - Q-16 Qualifier, upped to 30psi ... Pro Tree... Spun in 1st, missed 4th

Run #6 - Q-16 Round 2, 30psi ... Pro Tree... Spun in 1st ... This was a FUN race vs. Eric Selof's Shadow (aka B-Slowe Jr. ) He treed me and we were side by side thru the first 1/8 !!! Fun times!

Run #7 - Q-16 Round 3 (Semi's), 30psi ... Pro Tree... Spun in 1st ... This was another FUN race vs. Warren Stramer... Battle of the G-bodies! Warren had a line lock issue when we were both staged and he rolled thru and had to back up and re-stage. I knew I had to make up about a half second so was watching the tree the whole time and as soon as he staged the yellows lit and surprized both of us... I was late but not as late as Warren so got off to a nice hole shot! Looking over my shoulder, I saw Warren coming hard and thought he would blow by me. He was side by side by the 1/8 and stayed there the rest of the way! This was another fun race, great times Warren!

0.0638 difference at the line... damn close!
Run #8 - Q-16 Round 4 (Finals), 30psi ... Pro Tree... Spun in 1st missed a few gears, left too early, no time for JT, LOL! ... Knowing that I would have to make up over a second to beat Slowe, I decided to take a shot at the tree... every pro tree round before went stage-stage-yellows about as fast as you could read that... so as soon as we were both staged, I went and was waaaaaaaaay way RED. Oh well, even if I got a .000 light I didnt have enough for a 9.27@153.34 MPH! Way to go Brian!
So, about 12 miles on the new bottom end and clutch, so both are probably broken in by now, LOL... Next steps:
1 - change oil
2 - inspect plugs
3 - fix exhaust leak(s)
4 - re-tension timing belt / re-zero cam timing
5 - work on suspension / alignment
EDIT: Oh yeah, all runs were lift throttle granny shifting cuz 3 and 4 both sounded crunchy
add to list
6 - work on trans

Warrens E/T with that speed shows just how well that car hooks. Automatics help too!
It was cool seeing both cars run at the same time with completely different setups.
How's the new clutch?

That transmission sure likes giving you grief!! maybe you've finally found the limit of the 523/568 ?
JT, great job getting the car together and running in time for SDAC! The G-bodies left a great impression on me this year, I need to get my Daytona sorted out and running quicker. It will be good to see the video of you vs. Warren since I wasn't able to see it first hand.

Congrats on getting everything up and running in time for SDAC! I wish I could have been there to see it. Can't wait to see your car run again, hopefully sometime this year. I can't imagine how busy you must have been over the last couple months here, between your job, working on the car, and hosting SDAC. Time for a rest now?
Wow JT. Sounds like I missed and awesome time. Damn wish I was there. I'm glad you got some good runs in . Nice when your hard work pays off.
