What to do with 87 Shelby LM's

It appears I have not one, but two Shelby LM's (part #P5249670) that don't operate correctly. One will start fine, but soon after begin to stumble, miss and run rich. The other idles at 2k and throws a power loss light.

Are these pretty much cores now, or can I do something with them? I know nothing about how this stuff is written or whatever, but would be willing to learn.

    Thanks!

Re: What to do with 87 Shelby LM's

step 1: socket your logic module

step 2: get a chip with a different cal on it. You can burn your own, or there are quite a few people on the boards who can do that for you. Mind you, Im guessing your LM internals are in good shape and the cal is your problem.

check out mopar ChEM and DCAL lists for lost more info.

I would open the case and see how they look inside. If they are all corroded and what not then I might pitch them. Otherwise, I might try to see if you can post up to ask if anyone might now how to fix them. I sure don't.

So when a "computer" goes bad, what usually happens? Is it corrosion typically? I've know people to change a few LMs before getting one that "works". Seems a little goffy to me.

I agree, how do I confirm if my LM internals are in good shape, a visual check?

And how do I go about "socketing" my LM?

I would start by pulling the board out of the case and look for any corrosion or broken solder joints.

I was going by his moniker. Is there someone else close by to try them out?

I live a couple hours away from Paul, I loaned him a LM from my 86 GLHS, one that was working good in my car. It worked fine in his as well and that's what he's got in there now. So we know the problem isn't his car, just the LM. With as bad as most L-bodys leak I would be suprised to find some corrosion inside the LM.

    well, scratch the socketing thing.

I dont know this for a fact, but Ive read you have to burn two chips on the 86 LMs. I know its for an 87 car, but that is actually an 86 LM in the l-body cars.

There are a couple of guys out there that I have talked to that have a 3 bar cal in their L running GLHS electronics. It can be done, but there is to little support for it I know very little. It is so simple to convert to 87' TII and all the support that comes with it I don't know that I ever will either.

I also have two GLHS stage 2 LMs, been running them for years now with a G head, now pushing 20 psi boost. This is the LM that I'm gonna use now, was a FWDP stage 5, Whorse put a ZIF socket in it, just got to get a cal burnt for it.
