My '88 had single pin calipers, '87 should be the same.
Ok, is this the final answer?

Yeah, and you are going to get phoenolic pistons too. They kinda suck, but make sure you get some of that Castrol LMA fluid and flush/fill the whole system.
actually I can get em either way, OEM phenolic or upgraded metal.
So what is the advantage on the metal piston?

More durable, with the trade off of more heat transfer to the brake fluid. Honestly I don't know which would actually be preferred for a street driven car.
Until you see the cost difference. Metal is WAY better, but I am sure you are going to go with phoenolic.
well, being a driver your right I probably would go with the phenolic. The cost difference isnt to bad really. Rockauto.com has them, and the local O'Reillys has them. 12.99 for phenolic piston, 16.99 for optional metal piston. Not to bad really.
If there was a real advantage, I might go with the metal. Might go with it anyway, who knows!

yup, thats the total price AFTER the core return. I ordered the metal piston calipers yesterday at O'reileys, and they should be here today.
and on the rear calipers.
I hadn't looked the up yet until you said that!!!!!!!! Autozone wants basically $100 each, with a $50 core!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder if there is a rebuild kit available?

just looked at rockauto.com, rear caliper kits can be had for $10 each, OR rebuilt rear calipers (with out the bracket, the autozone price was with the bracket) can be had for $65. Better but still not cheap. Funny thing is the core charge @ rockauto.com is MORE than the caliper!

Well, if I had known that, I would have gotten the metal, but Advanced quoted me like $37 each. Damn you Rockauto and Oreillys!
My OReillys should be built here before too long.
That's really not uncommon for cores to be more than the part itself. Supply and demand, they need those parts back so they can keep re-making them.
But it is stupid really... if my old rack was $150 core or $20 core, I'd bring it back to get my cash. Not like I would be able to sell my 195k mile leaking steering rack to anyone for $20?

I went to put on one of the calipers tonight and made an interesting discovery. For some reason I couldnt get the 10mm socket on the pin. So I stick my head in the wheel well with a flash light and give it a look...... hmmmmm not a hex head..... nope, its an allen bolt!
the other caliper is just like the factory ones with a 10mm hex, but this one, even though it fit and works fine, has an allen bolt. Probably a screwup at the rebuilding place.
