    Scanner

I am thinking about buying a scanner to help me tune my cars. I have no idea what type I should be looking at though. Anyone fill me in here? I have no experience so any help is appreciated.

OTC 4000E's regularly go for cheap, older MT2500 Snap On scanners also work. I've tried Mac, Genesis and didn't like them. Of course, the factory DRB scanner is a no brainer,

There seems to be a ton of the mt2500's on ebay. Could I just buy any of them and make sure I get the right catridge/chip for it? Is there anything on the otc or drb scanners that a snap on wont do?

Snap on and OTC are basically the same but I like the layout better on the Snappy. You will need to get the domestic cartridge on the snappy and OTC.

DRB's have way more options as there OEM, aftermarket scanners are handicapped and can't offer the options. I have an OEM Tech 2 scanner for GM's, its has features and options Snap On can only dream about,

    Re: Scanner

Thanks for the help Simon. One more question. I was looking at some cartridges. When they say "thru 1996" does that mean it will work with everything before 96?

I believe so. Mine is a basic bare bones setup (MT2500) and covers up to '96 vehicles.

The reason why I like the MT2500 is because you can view many tables on one screen(8 I think..been a long time since I used it on m turbo cars). You can view knock retard in 4 independant cylinders and many other things. A simpl scroll with the thumbwheel brings you around the page. But, you can't pick and choose which 8 parameters you want to view. You scroll and view them in order that they are.
