Maserati TC, what to look for?

Found an 89 TC for sale locally TII/ automatic car but looks pretty decent in the photos I've seen. It needs an alternator and a few things underhood which I'm not afraid of, but I am curious what I should look for body/interior wise. Are there certain parts that are super expensive to replace or hard to get? Car is the dark cherry color with a red interior with 66k miles.

Make sure the headlights are in good shape. Those are pretty expensive even used. I did some research on this recently and can't remember what else I found that was expensive to replace. 2.216Vturbo and xtremepickup might be good people to contact, they both have TCs and are on this board.

    Headlight housings are outrageously expensive...

That's most of what I know. I do like that color combo though, does it have the hard top as well?

Re: Maserati TC, what to look for?

    Somebody say TC???

Headlights are becoming in short supply (and if you do get the car, you might want to reseal the glass so it doent leak or just plain fall off one day )

The brake system is by Teves and it's a cutting edge(for 1989 that is!) 4 wheel antilock system that has chalolenges of its own but is very serviceable. Check to make sure the "antilock" yellow or the "brakes" red lights arent illuminated. Typically a sensor will illuminate the yellow or the accumulator that stores 2500psi of brake pressure used when the ABS kicks in will also trigger it when it becomes weak. if it's still the originsl accumulator, it's past time to replace it. Couple TC owners I know have just replaced all the componants from a LeBaron GTC and made it non-ABS but more user friendly...

Nice to have the original windshield (Lebaron will fit but has minor marking/shading differences) it will say Sicursiv and have the PentaTrident symbol in the center at the bottom.

The leather was not the best quality when new-and that was a loong time ago in cow years. if it is still intact, it needs to be fed a good quality oil to save it.

Nice thing about the TII/auto 8V TC motor, it's a true TII Forged crank and the TII Mahles are in there!

Post if you get serious about the car and I'll tell you some TC specific upgrades to enhance the driving satisfaction

    TC's rock BTW

Thanks guys, I'll let you know more once I take a look at it (probably next week sometime). Right now I'm not sure if it will be a driver or a parts car.

Re: Maserati TC, what to look for?

Obviously if it can be saved I will, but if not, it's still probably worth getting for the TII engine and other goodies.
