    87 water pump...

My friend gave a 87 water pump he was going to put on an 89 2.2 I bought from him, he thought it would flow into the head first or something. Has anyone done this? Does it really flow backwards?
    Curt.

Not it is not a reverse cooling design. The belt will run on the front side of the pulley with the older pump, and on the back side of it with the newer ones, but that is about the only difference.

It won't work except cause a cooling system issue and damage your engine. You have to change alot more than just the waterpump to reverse coolant flow an engine.

Do the older pumps flow the same as the newer pumps? I have both.

No, there the same, but some advice is to remove every other blade to reduce cavitation.
