    Last try

As some of you may know I burned through 2 sets of forged wisecos and a head this year. Hoping in the spring to give it on last try (3rd time the charm right). Anyway. Got a jy cyl head on weekend and having it ported and 1+mm valves put in. Porting intake and exhaust manifolds myself. Still have the 2.5 bored .040 over, have to take it in to see if a bore cleanup will do or if it has to go overbore. Has a crack or two in it around the bolt holes for the head. Already have the crank journals resized, decked, and cbshafts removed and holes filled, oil pump hole made bigger. Don't really want to have to get rid of it but if .040 over is the biggest I should go and the pistons done match up with the current .040 bore or if it is screwed then I'll get a new 2.5 block.

    Setup:
    2.5 with some bore over
    Forged wisecos
    TII rods resized
    FMIC
    Alky
782 swirl head, bigger valves, porting
    Ported manifolds
    Mitsu 16g 7cm turbine turbo
Stainless steel, DEI wrapped dp to cutout
    +40% injectors
Stage 5 comp (reproged for my exact setup)
    Walbro
#4 coolant mod as done by Shadow
    T-stat mod
    Oil cooler for turbo
    Wideband (not sure which)
    EGT gauge
    OBX diff

    Am I missing anything?

    Things in question:

    Which wideband to get?
Do I go with studs for the head? (I want to be able to take the head off the block incar without taking off the manifolds or turbo)
    Cometic or 'Fuse'?

I wouldn't "punch it out" any more than that... but, then again, judging by my luck lately, what's the worst that could happen? I mean, I guess it could be more unreliable then and possibly break down on you, but being a TD that's HIGHLY UNLIKELY..

There... since you wanted one, do you like that answer?

Cracks around the head bolt holes? thats junk my friend.
.040 is the largest overbore we can go.

I prefer studs, reusable and I feel better clamping force.

With you, Cometic as the fuse theory doesn't work with you,

Okay. So I've got some scrap steel now I guess. ----. But... I've got two good .020 over wisecos so get another 2.5 block and get it done up I guess.

Also, you can still remove and install the completed head with studs, you simply put the head like normal, then install the studs, tighten down.

Yep, saved me alot of money over head bolts due to the times I've had to take my head off,

Phoned the head shop (hehe) and they said that I could get porting from $300 to $1500. What Should I be looking to spend for use with mild ported intake, heavy ported exhaust, and the mitsu 16g 7cm turbo? Most bang for buck type deal. And if they cylinder head shop asks about the between valve cracks just tell them its all cool? I've got one, maybe two going from from the triangles towards the cross drills. They will know what to do to them right?

True enough, and with this one I hope to never do a head gasket. Well scratch that I want to keep it for a long time and will eventually open it up.

If the cracks are going from the cross drilled holes to the triangular water holes, it will be ok. I re-used one of my 782 heads with those cracks and didn't have any issue at all. If the cracks stray...meaning not going to the cross drilled holes, then it is crapola or get it welded.

Thermal coatings? Seems like it might be a decent idea for my pistons at least the way I go through them.

Yes full kit. People tend to like them... I don't have one though.
