    Clutch Replacement

Which is the best way to replace the clutch in my
    1988 Shelby Z

    A. Just pull the engine

    B. Just pull the tranny (did this on the GTCVNT....headache!)

    C. Or pull the engine and tranny together

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I did the other Shelby Z while I was going thru the engine,
which made it simple since I had everything out.

But this Z only needs a clutch and pressure plate.

    Re: Clutch Replacement

If you have the means, pull both. If not, just the trans will suffice.

    Re: Clutch Replacement

I'd pull the whole shebang out and do the clutch with it out of the car. I do it that way every time now.

    Re: Clutch Replacement

It is much easier with both out of the car. Putting the tranny back in the car with the engine still in the car is a pain in the butt.

Pull the transmission. I use engine hoist to lower and pull up the transmission.

I agree. It seems like it's more work, but after you've spent a few hours trying to line the tranny input shaft up with the clutch disc, you'll wish you had pulled it all.

Pull the trans. When putting it back in use a chain mounted to the boss on the top center of the trans, it will hang and balance nicely from that and pulling it up into the engine bay and aligning it is a snap if you use this method.

Yup. I've used that method on my Daytona and GLH.

Dave, are you talking about a "cherry picker"?

If so, I have one of those

Yes, he is reffering to a cherry picker. Also use 2 guides... If the splines are not lining up, give the crank a slight turn until they do.

and by guides I think Ken means two shoulder bolts with the heads cut off in the top two holes connecting the trans to the block. I cut slots in mine so I could get them out easier see below

    Thanks guys

    I have a plan now!

Also, does the chain mount to the top bell housing bolt hole?
