How to install a HEP correctly?

My brain damage has jumped up and bit me again!!! I had pulled out the HEP that's going bad. and didn't pay attention to which way was the correct way for it to face! Can any one tell me IF there's a certain way so the right sensor is facing up? I have a new Mopar HEP coming to me and I wanted to find if I have a good one to carry in the car for what ifs in life and now I'm concerned about if there's a correct way to install one and fear messing up a new one if I don't install correctly!!!!
Thanks for any help I get,
this is on an 85 GTS and the same year Distributor!

There really is only one way to install them. The window blades mounted to the distributor shaft that pass through the sensor are underneath it. So the "sensor" part faces down leaving the smooth side facing up. The wiring harness passes through the indentation in the distributor housing when the screw holes for the distributor cap are all aligned. While I've not tried to install one upside down, I don't think it is possible.

Thanks Barry! My HEPs for my 85 has two sensors on it!! One points down when mounted and the other one points up! One is hooked up to a white connecter and the other goes to the black connecter! One sensor has the part number on it and the other doesn't I just want to make sure I install the new one right!! No return on electrical parts, Eh? There is no smooth part on this HEP as you describe that my old eyes can see?
    Thanks for any replies,

I just looked at the 85 hep and it IS different. The only tip is the silver tab on the edge is a ground to the distributor base. 85 IS weird.

There is still only one way to install it where it will sit flush with the disti. I tried to see if it would go in incorrect on my 85 GLH - it doesn't sit right and the notch for the wires won't line up with them when incorrect.

Thanks for all the answers I think I've calmed down now and can think straight now! Which must mean it's time to take my meds again! And I can start checking for good used heps again and wait for the new one to get here!! Has anyone tried to rebuild a Distributor at home?? IF so where did you get the stuff to do the rebuild, how much did it cost, and was it needing any special tools?? No more reman. ones from mopar for the 85s
    Thanks for the replies,

Terry, On one hand, I hope your kidding about the brain damage bit, but on the other, its nothing to joke about. I haven't been on the boards for awhile, am I missing something? If you are serious, I'm sorry to hear about this.

Wow, I just receieved a PM explaining the situation. I'm very sorry to hear it is a serious issue. Somehow, despite my hours of time spent on these boards in the past 5 years, I have never read anything about this. Terry, I'm very sorry for taking the matter as if you were joking.
