Exclamation Way out way to use 2.2 pistons with a 2.5?

This has me thinking, the pin is higher on the 2.5 pistons, sooooooo, if using 2.2 pistons on a 2.5, the piston will sit down in the hole, now, what if you used tall deck rods? would that have them at zero deck and if it did, are the rods strong enough for 350-400 whp?

Re: Way out way to use 2.2 pistons with a 2.5?

I think it does, actually. The long rods are 157mm (stock T2 are 151mm). What's the difference in compression height between the 2.2 and 2.5 pistons?

Rod strength - not so sure. They're basically just long LW rods...

Naw... you got that a little backwards. Using the 2.2 pistons with the 2.5 crank will have the pistons sticking out of the bores.

    To get you thinking...
    piston pin heights: 2.2(1.604), 2.5(1.37), 2.5TD(1.604)
    rod length: 2.2 (5.945), 2.5(5.945), 2.5TD(6.181)
    deck height: 2.2(9.36), 2.5(9.36), 2.5TD(9.83)
    stroke: 2.2(3.622), 2.5(4.09)

Re: Way out way to use 2.2 pistons with a 2.5?

I will do that, just figured or hoped there would be a cheap and easy way to use 2.2 pistons in a 2.5L, for my Hybrid 2.5L TIII engine.

2.5 crank with t2 rods and 2.2 pistons in a 2.5 tall deck block. The tall deck block isnt as strong as a commonblock though. I am sure a set of 4 bolt mains would help that.

Yeah, I was told that but way too much work. Guess I will have to buy TIII 2.5L pistons.

Guess you're planning on using 16 valve head--I went thru something simular a few months back--ended up e-mailing chris T/U and he went to wiseco--they replied valve centerline not the same between 8 valve and 16 valve head so one or the other but not both without extra machine work to pistons--I wanted to set up an 8 valve and be able to change to 16 without buying new pistons later on-no dice without cutting larger pockets in the 16 valve pistons - --bobr19

Well, If I went Neon head, I wouldn't have to change pistons but TIII, I have to otherwise I will have 7:1 compression,

I have some niced Forged JE's in my engine already so trying to save money,
