Safari Editon GLHS: Strut Question Help!!!

Does anyone have the right part number for rear KYB GR-2 struts on an GLHS Omni? I'm pretty sure that the parts store gave me Charger ones because it raised the ride height of the rear about an inch. I already have the MP rally springs on the Shelby so and inch is a lot, this thing looks really goofy! Well the p/n that I got was 341035. I'll be heading to the parts store after work. You guys think it would be easier just to order some KYB GR-2's from and Plymouth Horizon? These guys tend to be easily confused.

    Thanks!

Shocks don't change the ride height and my catalogues have Charger and Omni's with the same setup, as there both L bodies. I can check with my parts guys tomorrow to confirm they gave you the right strut.

Interesting, I put jy shelby charger springs and shocks on the back of my 89 Horizon. Swapped out the shocks with stock replacements shortly thereafter. The replacement kyb shocks (for a horizon) had the spring seat mounted higher than the shocks that came off of the jy charger.

So with the charger springs and Horizon shocks the car sits higher than with the charger shocks/springs but lower than the stock Horizon shocks/springs.

Part numbers may all be the same now though.

I have heard that the intuitive way of installing the spring seat? is actually upside down, and will raise the car about an inch. What appears to be the "wrong way" is actually right and will give a proper ride height. I am sure someone else will be along shortly to further explain, as I doubt that made much sense.

Yeah, make sure the lower spring seat isn't upside down. It can go on either way..

There are differences between the Omni and Charger shocks. The Charger shocks are about 2 inches longer than the Omni.

KYB with the perch installed correctly: (Stock GLH shock next to it for comparison).

KYB with perch installed upside down, this will raise the rear about an inch.

Re: Safari Editon GLHS: Strut Question Help!!!

Thanks for the help! Spring perch was installed incorrectly. I've always ran the Koni's and just assumed that the perch went up! I'm trying out the KYB's in hope that they'll help soak up the big bumps in the fields! I would be doing OK now but the guy at the parts shop forgot to order my other front strut! I'm pretty pissed and they can't next day air the the thing either. I'm hoping someone local has one laying around!!!! If not I'm stuck with my worn Koni's for the weekend.
