Billet Common Block Crank - 2.0

A new crank is on the way for Sledgehammer's 2.0 project. I had found a billet crank that weighs only 38lb. vs. the 48 the IMSA crank weighs. Heh-heh. The deal is done and the crank is on the way! It'll be a great piece for those superb main caps from 8Valves to hold in place. Now to get back to work on the head and order up some custom slugs!

I'm assuming this is a one off, and you've decided not to make a neon crank work?

    Steve,

Are you destroking a 2.2 or switching over to a 2.0L block? Wondering what your doing. Who made the crank for you? Intermet? Sonny Bryant?

This will be a great 8v when done. Short stroke, light reciprocating mass... crazy flowing head.

Depends on what turbo and boost he runs, but this may be the 1st 8v to crack 500whp on gas.

Re: Billet Common Block Crank - 2.0

Sounds like your Destroking the 2.2L like the old IMSA motor. Just wondering where you'd found the crank at or are getting it at. Never know, if I get back into these TD's -- i"ve always wanted to destroke one and run it up around 7500rpm.

What rods did you go with? And did you redesign the pistons too?

BTW, nice pictures. Gonna knife edge the crank and then rebalance it?

If you want to talk to me thru PM, just drop me a line Steve when you get a minute.

    Gary,

I would have to say I got lucky with this find. I've been working on it for a little while and the owner and I came up with a deal for it. I'm pretty stoked to get this rolling and drop it in Sledgehammer.

Re: Billet Common Block Crank - 2.0

The story I was told is there were two of these made by a guy who ran Bonneville. The one I have is an extra that was never needed. I wanted to keep the car an 8V and run the common block. This was the better choice for me as opposed to fitting the old IMSA crank in the common block.

Yessir, destroking the old 2.2. The crank was made by a company named Farndon. I don't know much about them. I've heard it is a top notch piece. Hopefully it will fit the bill. http://www.farndon.com/crankshafts.htm
