You're going to need to open up the water pump hole for the TIII coolant deflector too! Looks good.

A wee bit off topic here, but Simon, I hope you built the mother-of-all-transmissions transmission for this thing

JB Weld strengthening fillets on everything from what I hear, sprayed the clutchpacks with 3M headliner mounting stuff for extra grip, bent the fins in the TC with needle nose pliers REAL carefully for 3000 rpm stall, cross drilled every part of his OBX for reduced rotational inertia, bored out every hole in the valve body with a 1/4 inch drill bit, and is now as we speak filling it with a secret recipe "trick" fluid containing varsol, zippo fluid, extra virgin olive oil and a teaspoon of ford type F.

(p.s. Just kidding about the needle nose pliers thing, I think he used a hammer)

Aha, confirmed! No-one would tell me that secret teaspoon of final ingredient, but there was a rumor it was type-F.

But anyhoo, you trying that line pressure bleed hole this time?

Maybe later. I finally have my trans shifting where I want so I don't feel like playing around with it after I get it running.

Got the short block together, woot. Those Eagle rods are sexy,

Put the head on tomorrow, paint and bolt on all the accessories, then hopefully my cams etc will be in Wed morning, grab them, put it all together and put the engine in Friday. I need it running for early next week as I have 2 Street Legals left then its over until April 08,

I see your planning on using the oil pan gasket? Is that the most commonly used method or is it RTV? I noticed in the MP book Volume 4 they use RTV...

    Interesting

You can get a one piece, molded rubber oil pan gasket for the CB's. Check out the FAQ's for a part number. I hate oil leaks.

Well, I mean, WTF?? How come this isn't like a rite of passage that should be common knowledge? This should be in the mandatory knowledge area... I've been dicking with an oilpan gasket leak and RTV for like a month GD-it!! I tried to fix the thing like 3 times...

edit: Damm.. that thing is $90.. whew... oh well

Re: The Van is finally getting its engine thread-and progress pics!!!

si teh funnay.... I usually never have leak problems unless there is a gasket involved. I use the ultra black on everything. I'm anal about cleaning up the surfaces right and applying as directed, because I hate messing with RTV and never want to have to do that bit again.... sounds perverse, but I spend longer doing stuff I hate doing, just to make triple sure it's a good job and it will be a lonnnnng time before I have to do it again. ... theoretically.

I'm trying to remember why I use the ultra black on everything, think I had issues with the blue stuff and the red stuff before, but can't remember precisely what and why. That was back in the early 90s, got a vague idea it was blue stuff that wouldn't seal on a thermostat housing and red stuff wouldn't work on a valve cover. Then somehow figured the black stuff works on everything and used that for everything ever since. Even remember it holding a 3 bolt thermostat housing on one motor (different one than the blue stuff failed) where 2 of the three bolts were stripped and it was just hanging on one. Was meant to be temporary, but it worked and I forgot about it for months.

Whoops. </threadjack> Umm, nice gasket you got there Simon

There not $90, even retail around here but even if they were, worth every penny. Never quite liked putting pieces of oil pan gasket together upside down dripping with oil,

    Getting closer, :O)

Got the head flowed today, then put it on, painted and put all the accessories on, replaced all the ex manny studs and installed the coated manny. I am getting really tired of cleaning and painting,

Hopefully pic up my cams and rocker arms tomorrow, install and degree them, clean and paint the power steering bracket, then hopefully have the motor ready to go in on Thursday.
